fuel pump

It has been suggested that I start a new thread with my question.

Why is there a fuel pump for the carburetor models?

Wouldn't gravity be enough to keep the carb bowl full?

If it quit working, could one bypass it in an emergency?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Eddie, I can't answer why there is a fuel pump on the carb'd model. But I can tell you that it will run if you have to by-pass the fuel pump for an emergency situation. However, it will not run right, it will spit and sputter and run like sh*t. I tried it just to see if it would run.

I'm guessing that you could "do without" a fuel pump but you may have problems in some instances (steep uphill/downhill or heavy lean angle).
