Here's a side shot of mine for starters Chuck. The rider's backrest is a modification to RDL's, using a Cobra pad, so ignore that (I needed lower support). If I ordered the seat again I'd forget that backrest altogether and put something else (a Grasshopper?) on there.

And remember that every build will be a little different depending on what the customer requests. Mine has me slightly lower and further forward than my Mustang seat, while others have reported the opposite.

I've seen some excellent photos of RDL seats on this forum, so keep searching the archives. There was a group buy done once, and that thread had a few photos in it.

To be honest , I don't know . I bought the bike last season . I thought they were just stock but I could be wrong .... I like the way they feel . I take the Nomad out occasionally and it's quite a bit different with the ape's , but a lot of fun . Sorry I can't help !!

Those RDL seats must be very comfy as they look very bulky/clumsy to me. The lines do not look to flow very well with the bike, but pictures usually never do justice to anything.
I wish I could see and sit on one in person.
For those of you with the RDL, what is the passenger approval rating?
Anyone in Minnesota - Twin City area with one?

I got mine primarily to keep my passenger happy... She hated the Mustang. I had more room on that seat, but at her expense. And the passenger seat on the Mustang was too flat, so she got bounced forward into the rider's backrest all the time.

So now the Mustang is my around town seat, and the RDL goes on for longer trips.

The Mustang was better than OEM, but I still got a sore butt after a couple of hours. The RDL truly is a daylong saddle. That picture I added in the post above is along the Pacific Coast Highway in CA on our way back down to LA after two months / 15,000km's of riding in July / August '15... We could never have climbed back on the bike every day if it wasn't for that saddle.

Will the Bakup, Custom World, or Grasshopper rider backrest work with the RDL? Thanks

Congrats to you !! Take it for a long ride and then get the flash . You'll see how much of a positive difference it'll make . . .

Going to do the flash pretty soon. I am working so much overtime it’s hard to ride. I am working 90 miles from my house and this guy lives within 2 miles of where I’m working. Really helps being able to pick the bike up. Would pick it up tomorrow but it is supposed to be 50° and rain. Would also love to be able to get the seat upgrade at Russell’s right now while there is no off time. I shouldn’t complain, bought the bike with cash from overtime pay!

This is a stupid question. Is there any way to adapt ths ‘03 Nomad seat to the 1700 while the 1700 seat goes for the upgrade? The ‘03 is a Russells also. Oh, it will be for sell shortly also

The man I spoke with for a price and date yesterday told me June. I will call them tomorrow and set a date. If they can get it in May it will be on its way for sure. I just hope it sits as good as the one on my 1500. Now a backrest.......

Called RDL today. Second week of June. May just wait 'til next winter. Depending on work at the time. 6 weeks turn-around from Alabama.
Bought the bike today. Left it at the guys house until tomorrow. Didn't get off work 'til after dark. Around 40 degree, dark interstate, and 90 miles on a new to me bike. I'll pick it up tomorrow at lunch and leave work earlier.

Congrats Chuck, great bike at a great price. When you go from a RDL it’s hard to ride anything else. I found a cheap mustang on our forum and used it for a year and a half. I just received my RDL a month ago and can’t wait to get a good ride in on it. Enjoy
