left side ticking noise

So this spring i change the oil and lo and behold i have the dreaded ticking noise. It doesnt always do it but shows up whenever it wants to ,more often than not. im using t6 oil in it and have about 1,500 miles since the oil change. I have read every thread i coud possibly find on the subject and im wondering if anyone that has had this noise from their bike had any certain failures or if anything at all has happened to their motor? I have done all the mods to the bike that you can do to it to make it quieter and better running.

The dreaded tick, the tick that nobody seems to be able to identify, the tick that dealers have said "oh they ALL do that"? I think I've got what you've got. My bike is bone stock engine-wise other than V&H Big Shots. After one year and 16k miles of ownership, she keeps on keeping on: keeps on ticking intermittently and keeps on chugging along with no ill effect.

When I had my 1600 I only got worried when the crazy noises stopped. I think the oil change is a coincidence and it is just your turn to get odd noises. Ride on, don't worry about it. Mine had 90,000 on it...most of it while ticking and knocking.

I've got a 2000 Nomad that does the same thing. Do you notice the noise goes away when you have the clutch pulled in? That's what mine does and I was told it was a noise in the clutch basket, and then got the "they all do that" too and was told not to worry about it.

Maybe try a synth blend instead of full synth

shell rotella t6 is not full synthetic, not even half synthetic, not even a quarter, theres nothing synthetic in it, it's a grade 2 oil

i tried mobile 1 1040 t4 racing oil and the noise was worse and didnt ever go away, just want to know if this ticking noise has lead to anyone having breakdowns. We have a ride coming up to do the lake superior circle tour and im trying to get the bike in shape .

the ticking noise stops with the clutch pulled in, took a ride up the north shore this weekend and the noise varies in loudness at times. it can be quieter afteri stop and shut it down then fire it up again other times it seems to be louder

Its just some of the tolerances have opened up with wear in the clutch basket.

Do your best to ignore it.

It's annoying but harmless.

Sounds like a hydraulic valve adjuster is stuck. I haven't had as much noise since I went to Mobil One 10w-40. It flows better than 20w 50.

I think that's what I said. I went from 20w 50 to 10w 40.
