Tour Pack

Looking at my options for a Tour Pack. There are several on Ebay but between the price and having to repair and paint it not sure if it is better a new one. I found this one:

http://a1hardbags.com/motorcycle-tru.../prod_313.html

It's from a1 hardbags. Anyone ever use them or heard about them?

Thanks,

Rich

You just can't go wrong with a genuine Harley Davidson Tour Pak, even if it costs a bit more. I know it's not the answer you were looking for, but it's the only answer I have.

If you can repair, paint, build and modify you will save some $, if you're like me, challenged you're better off buying. I have a Prémeux, love it! But it's $$$

Be patient, some good HD trunks do show up once in a while. They are well worth it.

In the classified ads here some one is selling a Harley tour pack and a mounting bracket you could look at if it's still available (go to the bottom, new prices). Here's the link, http://www.vulcanbagger.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=35251

I got an a1 last year for my 09 Nomad. I had a Beemer with a trunk and have a huge trunk on my DR650, so was looking for a solid, big box and it is. It's felt lined, has good hardware and I don't care that it's black. It didn't come with any weather seal so it lets water in when it rains. Took a couple of tries to find a seal that would keep water out but still allow the lid to close/lock. At the time it was listed with a 'Minor Paint Issue' for $285. After a year I still can't find the 'issue'. I wanted to keep the factory passenger backrest so I mounted it on a Wampus with steel bar extensions. I got a cheap steel flat bar from Home Depot, cut it into 4 pieces, and used 2 to extend the Wampus and 2 on the inside of the box to have steel support inside and out. I used stainless hardware (also from Home Depot) with o-rings to absorb vibration. As I think about it, I had some leftover cheap roll of cork (also from the Depot) that I used to line the bottom under the felt just to add some small bit of extra padding for things I toss in the box.

The bars are on top of the Wampus so it would be flat from front to back. You can see the box is molded to have some structural soundness built in.

I kept the factory backrest. The top opens without interference.

Not a bad looking box.

Wompus makes an extended rack designed for the HD Tour Paks. That's what I got when I had mine. Fit perfectly.

JJG3 that is perfect and exactly what i was looking for. I didn't think it came with a weatherproof seal. What did you wind up using? I also like the way you kept the factory backrest. I will have to see which one the wife likes better. She does like the grab bars so either way they stay.

BandC. I am also looking at the one you sent me the link to. Waiting on a reply.

Awesome help from everyone thanks. That is the best part about this site. Everyone has great input. Someone always has done it before.

If you buy a Harley knockoff you should be able to use a stock H.D. weather seal.

I have the same one that is on A1. I changed the Hinges to the HD ones. The ones that came on it were pretty flimsy. I also put an aluminum plate in the bottom to bolt it down, just for reinforcement. All in all it's a pretty good box.

As far as a mounting rack, I built my own from aluminum and had it powdercoated. This winter I'm converting it to use the HD quick release system. That way I can change things up without pulling the bag off all the time.

You can buy a new rubber gasket at the HD dealer, as well as any hardware you need to replace.
