I'm surprised they were open on Sunday. All HD dealerships are locked on Sundays here.

A lot of states have a law against selling vehicles and such on Sundays.

HD stores are always open to sell you parts, accessories, and clothes.

I am almost positive Wisconsin just changed to allow motorcycle sales on Sundays though...

In AZ, all the H-D dealers are open on Sunday in the metro area - and they can sell bikes. Most car dealerships are open too.

I have caught up on my blog, so be sure to see my latest entries.

I roamed between Bellingham and Mount Vernon, WA today (Sunday). The H-D dealer in Bellingham was shut but Skagit Harley in Burlington was open. I checked how much they charge for 1,000 mile service (US$300) and their hourly rate (US$85). A lot cheaper than what my dealer in Vancouver, B.C. charges (around C$500 and C$110, respectively).

Enjoy reading your blog, CJ.

Ride safe!

So the motorclothes and parts departments were open, but there were no motorcycle sales people there.
It's that way in Maryland also. I think other states have the same law.

I see you stopped in Norman and visited OU. They have a cool stadium. I was there earlier this year for work.

Even with thick leather chaps and 3 jackets I was still shivering.

I stopped at Fort Thunder HD in Moore, OK (just south of OKC) and was looking at their gloves. The ones I had with me are fine for Phoenix, but weren't getting the job done today. They had a really nice pair of HD gauntlets with Gore-Tex, but I couldn't bring myself to shell out $105 for gloves I probably wouldn't need after this trip. 50 miles later, I wished I had bought them. Tomorrow looks better, should be less clouds and more sun. I sure hope so.

I only have to ride 355 miles to Socorro NM tomorrow.

Update: Just walked out to get something from the bike and the sky is clearing and there is some sun!
CJ,

A cheap fix. Go to Walmart and buy those small chemical heat packets. I have used them a couple of times. Stick them in some pockets or if your gloves have some room, slip it down the back side of the gloves.

Today turned out to be much better than yesterday. It was 33° when I left Amarillo around 09:30 this morning. I won't lie, it was miserable for about the first 170 miles. Once I got to Vaughn NM, it had warmed up to around 70°. I stopped there for lunch and peeled off the chaps and a couple layers of jackets. Other than being windy, it was very comfortable. I am in Socorro NM right now, my destination for today and it is 83°. According to Garmin, I rode 355 miles today. I'm heading home in the morning!

Looks like the remainder of your journey will be much warmer. Be safe and enjoy the rest of your trip.

I'm sure it will. It's 91° in Chandler right now.

Not much to see between Amarillo and Socorro, it's pretty much flat except for some small mountains I went through about 30 miles from Socorro.

I made it back home safe and sound. Walked in the door at 3:00 PM.
