Motorcycle Jack

What do you all use, and how stable is it..

Harbor Freight has a few.. Last one I had was back with my VTX1300, it was a Sears jack.. worked pretty well, but would leak down a bit, and bike would have to be off kickstand and held level to get the jack under it.. sometimes that was awkward to do..

Harbor Freight has a High Position jack..

Thoughts?

Was wondering about the jack from Harbor Freight, also there are supposed to be some low profile jacks.. was just wondering other peoples experience with them.. not a tutorial on how to use a jack..

-cheers..

I have had a Harbor Freight jack for the past several years. My current bike is the third bike I've used it with. It's plenty stable, even with my 900 pound Ultra Limited on it. I had to stand the Nomad up, off the side stand to get the jack under it, not so with my Harley.

My apologies on the tutorial. I took this sentence " and bike would have to be off kickstand and held level to get the jack under it.. sometimes that was awkward to do.."
To mean you lacked knowledge on how to properly use a jack single handed.

much appreciated..
I am figuring on needing the height to get the vaquero under it.. if so I will make a template like I ended up doing with my VTX..
Where I have 3 blocks of 2x6's to drive the wheels on to and one for the kickstand.. Then I epoxy'd them to a piece of plywood.. anytime I drove my bike in to work on it, I would drive it on to that..

The plywood was cut so the jack could fit under it and jack the bike up without the jack being on the plywood.

I have long ago burned that in the fireplace in the garage..
Guess I might have to do the same thing with this bike..

Not looking to do a heavy customization to it.. but the one jack Harbor freight has gets the bike 30" off the ground.. which is perfect for waxing and changing tires, ect..

Thanks for the reply.. :)

It would be awkward because of my work-space at times... As I mentioned in the reply above I ended up doing a work around..

You know the assumption thing.. never assume..

Have a great day
Cheers.

No problem. Next time you ask for people's thoughts, I won't assume you mean it.

Use Jack stands for stability.

I just use 5 2x4s liquid nailed and screwed together with another 2x4 for a lever, works great. under the front part of the frame to lift the front wheel or under the rear of the frame to lift the rear wheel.

thats crazy someone did a video showing people this, yeah I'm going take my bike while I'm on top of it and slide a jack under it with my foot balance on the other foot and raise it ! what crock of....
used that jack for many years on my nomad, slighty one way or the other and you were screwed as the oil filter was lower than the frame rail just a smidge,
to far forward and would slide of the toward the down tubes.
you can raise it off its side stand, get on you belly and line it up while pumping with your hand, once the jack reaches the frame stand up and go for it
NEVER an issue.

Jacking up your motorcycle while laying on your belly does sound like a much safer way of jacking up a bike. Thanks for the input

Never any problems with my J & S jack. Slides under the Nomad and plenty stable.
