oil filter

Being a fairly new member I don't know if this subject has been talked about, but I've found that if you have removed the goatbag on your exhaust system that you can fit a Fram #ph7317 oil filter on the Nomad.It's a little bit bigger and somewhat cheaper than the one thats called for. I've been using it for my last three oil changes.

I have also run the Super Tech from Wal-Mart. It is made by Champion and has the anti drain back valve in it.

I run it with the goat belly still in place. Not heat or interference issues.

I have been using the PH6017A on my bikes for three years. I also use AmsOil 20-50 synthetic oil.I run the oil 10000 miles and change the filter every 3500 miles. Seems to be working fine.

wicks make a real good filter for less then 5 bucks . fram filter are junk .if you dont believe cut one apart.

Fram filters are trash. Get the Supertech from Wally World. Some of the best money you'll ever spend.

Well you guys seem pretty adamant about the fram filters. It wouldn't bother me to try another.

I was reading thru some older threads and came across this one. I have been running the Purolater Pure one filter # PL 14610. Everything I have read on it rates it high. It just happens to be the same one that fits my wife's '02 Mazda Millenia. It is a little bigger than the OEM by 2-3 ounces.

After rereading some of the posts I figured out one thing.Opinions about filters are as varied as opinions about oil, tires, gas, or a myriad of other subjects.

For $2.00 I prefer the Walmart filter #ST7317 It sure beats paying $11.00 up here for the Wix,or fram filters. I always grab a couple when Im in the U.S. as they are not available in Walmart here.

For some reason our Walmart quit ordering the ST7317, and I had to drive way across town to the other Walmart. They had 7 and I bought them all. They looked at me a little funny. Maybe they thought I own 7 motorcycles or something?

Anyhow, the total cost was about the same as the one single filter I bought from our local dealer at the 600 mi. oil change.

I run WIX filters which I believe are amoung the best, but I lost the part number for it . The bigger one. if any one knows that number I'ld like it.

As to frame filters I will never use them again. I didn't need to ask anyone to tell, 2 I put on my volvo turbo turned inside out and stopped OIL FLOW altogether!

That was 2 in a row, with the thinking the first one was screwed, but when the second one did, that ended it for me.
