I'm not familiar with the Voyager truck, but sounds like it comes stock in one set position. So finding a way to make it adjustable is a plus. Good Job. Suggestion: Go to Ace Hardware store (Lowes,HomeDepo..) I think you might be able to find square plastic "plugs" that might fit into the ends of the square channel that you used. It would finish off the ends nicely.

I was going to suggest getting some plugs for the exposed square tubing ends. It would give it a more finished look and be safer.

Thanks for that suggestion on the plugs. It would look better if I used solid tubing too. Maybe on the next generation.

It is a good idea that can be refined, if you have access to a machine shop.

Thumbs Up

Good job, never enough room for the wife. I think I would powder coat them the color of the bike along with the plugs.

Did you give any thought to covering the gap between the chrome pieces? Good job on work and thanks for posting, I may have to give that consideration if the wife ever decides she wants to ride.

Thanks for the pictures! I have been thinking about this for over a year now. I know you need to raise the trunk slightly so you can still use the original bolt holes and add a second set of bolts to move back. You're actually attaching the trunk and rack to the fabricated piece to get the desired move back.

A couple of thoughts:
  • What about using a rectangular piece of stock not as high?
  • Other thought is using a piece of flat stock and using washers to raise the height of trunk enough to allow head of bolts between trunk and rails

I added Marvel passenger highway pegs and while they are not perfect they do allow passenger to push off and give stability as there is nothing really for them to grab (I have rear speakers). i also added the extended passenger back rest which helps too.

Maybe you could use rectangular stock for gen.2? That would look even better than solid square tubing, unless you wanted to raise the trunk too.

There are some posts either on this forum, the VulcanForums, or both about just removing the spacer from behind the seat pad to get more room. I did that and got about 1 1/2" more room.

Thanks but I don't need to raise the trunk as I have extended back rest. I am aware of removing the rubber spaces on the back pad and like the rubber shim to take some of the shock in between passenger and trunk.

I really think a piece of flat stock is way to go and use some thin head bolts and washers to raise the trunk slightly to mate both pieces to flat stock.

Grrr! My posts was supposed to go on another thread that someone posted a link to this thread. DOH! The OP on the other thread used square stock with holes to move his trunk back. He had mentioned making another version from sq. stock without holes. That is why I made my suggestion. Sorry for the intrusion on this thread!

Clicked on you photobucket link and was bombarded by pop up ads. Photobucket sucks! Didn't get to see what you did, but was wondering how you overcame the chrome plastic trim that doesn't allow for the trunk to move.

The non quick release trunk on the Voyager is one of the items that makes it not competitive with Indian, Victory (RIP), and Harley. It is only it's real selling price that keeps them going out the door.
