So few weeks back while "experimenting" with my bike, I gently laid it down on it's crash guard. Well it's a good thing I still had clutch in because to my surprise the engine did not cut off. Dealer said he went through Kawis "flow charts" and everything is A okay. I lay it down in front of him and sure enough engine still runs. So he said the only other thing is bad ecu and they ordered new one under warranty. Tomorrow I am supposed to drop bike off to replace ECU. My question is does anyone know if engine actually supposed to cut off if bike lays on crash guard or does it require a more extreme angle?

I have a 2003 Nomad 1500. I went for a 350 mile ride with some friends through Utah 2 weeks ago.As we were pulling over to get our bearings, I overshot the pavement and wound up in some gravel on the shoulder, lost my balance and the bike went gently down on the right engine guard. The engine continued to run. I think you have to go farther horizontal before the engine stops.

My buddies 1600 classic shuts down if it reaches the highway bars. Don't ask how we know this but experience is a great teacher.

Thank you all, I got the answer from another forum. It is a pendulum that should shut the engine as it touches the crash bars. Malfunctions often though it seems...
