Carb jetting

Hi all, have a question regarding carb jetting; ???

I have installed an aftermarket air filter system on my 1500 (2001 with the single carb). After adding the new filter system, I noticed my top end performance is very poor. Now that I'm getting more air, I'm getting really lean at the high RPMs and the bike appears to be fuel starved. :-/

Does anyone know what jet sizes should be used with the aftermarket intake filters? I know one system (Barons) comes with a re-jetting kit, but not sure what size they are. I haven't been able to locate any information on what I need to do to offset the increased air flow.

All help appreciated.

I don't know which jet # youll need but it will have to be larger, (a higher number jet) Id find out what you have in there now and go up about two sizes. sometimes its a trial and error method until you get it right. I think #170 is the stock jet but Im not 100% sure.

I did the Coyote air mod (per Gadgets's website) to my 2001 carbed 1500 last year, which is a lesser expensive version of the Thunder kits. Through some research on other similar mods of this type, I ended up increasing the main jet to a 170 and the pilot jet to a 46 and the pilot screw 3 turns out. Each carbed bike can be different I've also heard, so a little tweaking on the number of turns out on the pilot screw may be needed. Mine has run great with this setup so far, also with pretty good gas mileage. Good luck.

Thanks guys, sounds like I need a #170 jet. Will I need to change the needle to match the new jet?

Also, after changing these out and with the aftermarket intake, has anyone had any issues getting their bike to pass emmissions testing? Pennsylvania is pretty critical on it I hear.

Anyway, thanks again for all the advice.

I still have a Dyna-Jet needle in mine that was installed when my Vance & Hines pipes went on, but many have kept the stock needle in theirs after going with the 170 main jet and 46 pilot jet and have had no problems I've heard. Some have said gas mileage will be better by staying with the stock needle.
Can't answer your emissions question as we don't have emissions test on motorcycles here in Georgia. . . . . . . yet!!

Keep the stock needle and stock pilot jet.Use a 170 main jet 2 1/2 turns out is a good start. Gas milage will be better too!

Thanks for all the suggestions...I put the 170 jet in this weekend, the big air cleaner, and with the pipes...the bike was awsome! (sounds louder too...but maybe thats just my imagination)
