Does Greg even have a bike right now? What is the status of his "bike in a basket"?

Sorry Greg, I didn't realize this was a NCR only thread.
I never go to individual sections on here. I click on most recent topics at the top of the page. After that I go to new topics. I will start reading where they are originally posted and stay out of your regional posts and threads.
Geez, I though we were friends. :'(
You're just too sensitive of a guy Tim!! I had smiley-faces!!!!!

My bike was mostly done just before the national. I took it there and rode it.

I am still waiting on one last part that seems to be back-ordered.

Took it to another dealer to have some service work and inspections done on it. Otherwise I am riding it and it seems just fine.

Just got back late yesterday from a two-day trip that I typically take a couple times a years. It isn't a terribly long of a ride... just around 450 miles between the two days -- but it covers some of the road-types I like which is why the mileage is low for the number of hours ridden.

Didn't realize this was your local board.
You should have your rally here in Vermont, after all, it's at the center of everything. ;)
The roads are always better on the other board.

LOL!! Being in the true "Midwest Plains States" makes it extremely difficult to find roads of interest to ride.

Most of the roads in this section of the U.S. either go true north, south, east, or west.

11 curves in 318 miles is the saying we have around here. The sides on one's tires never wear out!!

You guys can post here anytime, we could use from some fresh input on this board ;)

Maybe we should make list of locations and do a poll for our next regional site.

Polls are fun, but we need a short list to poll.

Just playing with ya Greg! . Southern Indiana, southern Illinois, LaCrosse, and Minnesota are all good suggestions. Where are the roads the best? It's all about the ride for me.

If we're going to do a poll, I would agree that the list needs to be short.

I also suggest that when anyone suggests a location that they have some familiarity with it... rather than just guessing as to whether the riding is good in that area or not... ;)

I'll ring Dave's bell and let him know that a couple of us are ready to get this thing moving forward. Maybe then he'll put together a new thread for suggestions from which he can narrow it down for a poll.

Personally, I'll ride to any place if the riding is decent. So, for me it doesn't matter all that much... besides... someone else can put this thing together and let me know where and when to show up. ;)

I am at a loss for a suggestion. Iowa and Nebraska don't have very inspiring roads. We've been to Wisconsin before and it was great, but we've done that, although LaCrosse might be a good idea. That leaves the Dakotas, Minnesota and Illinois. The only thing I know about the Dakotas is Fargo and the Black Hills. Nothing in the former and the Black Hills are cool. Minnesota would be accessible if we did a HQ at LaCrosse and that leaves Illinois. I don't know anything about that either.

The other thing to consider is time of year. Depending on what makes the short list, some areas have more preferable times of year.

For areas with some reasonable elevation changes and roads that actually have some turns... you have to look along the Mississippi River of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

Iowa and Minnesota rely on the river valley area to provide its best riding options; as does Illinois. Illinois does offer the additional area of the southern-tip of Illinois where the Mississippi provides some great elevation changes and bluffs.

Wisconsin has other areas deeper within it that provide some great riding -- although the most elevation changes are located in the southwestern quadrant. The shoreline of Lake Michigan provides some nice scenery; although it remains somewhat flat. Northern Wisconsin has some nice areas also, but no where near as hilly and twisting as the southwestern quadrant.

The Dakotas are basically flat; except for the Black Hills area -- which, of course is exceptional riding.

In keeping within the region; that is about all I can see providing decent riding.

From this point on... I am keeping out of the discussion. Others can make their choices and plan the rally. ;)
