i know that the kick stand bolt hole will elongate to where the spring will fall off. ok is there a fix to the bolt hole or just another spring and lube? ??? ???

I think the only way to really fix it correctly is to weld up the hole in the frame tab, grind it flat on both sides and re-drill it. Doesn't sound like fun to me.

I have not looked at it closely to see, but you could probably also drill the elongated hole oversize and put a bushing in there. Helps if you know someone with a lathe.

When my spring fell off I took the bike to my machinist. Without disassembling the bike we did not see a way to get that frame piece off to work on it on a bench. Drilling that metal (looks like cast iron) in place would be next to impossible. I too thought about drilling it out and installing a bushing but decided to just go with a new spring. They are cheap and very easy to install.

Sounds like a new spring is the easy answer to that. I would hate trying to drill it if you can't take it off the bike.

If your original spring falls off it is because the bolt hole is elongated not because the spring is stretched so buying another stock spring will result in it falling off also.

Buy a generic spring at your local auto parts store that is closest to the original in size. Get one that has a hook premade on one end with a straight wire on the other. Those are made to hook in place and wrap the other end around the far anchor point and bend in place.

Presto, custom made spring.

Had the same problem here with the hole in the frame being elongated. I bought a new bolt becuase that was badly worn too, and used my hand grinder to flatten out both the frame tab and inside the fork on the stand. By the time they worn surfaces were ground flat there was room to slide a bronze thrust bearing into the gap, and made sure it was well greased.

Between the thrust bearing and teh new bolt enough slack was taken up to make the stand work just fine. CB
