some site problems?

I'm a noobie to this site, but I am a senior moderator on snowandmud.com ...

1) I'm having an issue with trying to post an avatar pic or signature pics from pictures of my bikes stored in the computer "pictures" section... the pictures all come out sideways? any idea how to prevent this, so I can post some pics of my bikes too?

2) are there no "thanks" or "like" icons for each post? In otherwords if I like a particular post, I could "like" the post...

asking for some help or advise on these, please
