I don't know that they'd have ABS. That's added weight and those ARE trained professional riders. They've practiced braking more than most of us, I'm sure. And they lose traction, too.

it's not only rain, but sand and other substances that will cause a loss in grip that ABS can mitigate. As far as longer stopping distances, in real word situations I bets it's theoretical for most of us. To put it another way, a rider on a BMW board regaled his story of a car that stopped short in fron of him. He hit the brakes so hard it put him over the windscreen and on the trunk of the car, but the bike never hit the car, just fell over on its side. The guy was small and light, but it still amazes me. I wouldn't buy a bike without it. The only caveat is keeping the brake fluid fresh and clean as ABS units aren't cheap out of warranty. I test mine from timte to time when I pull into the garage where the floor is rather smooth. The ABS engages and the bikes stops.
