Hey Kevin, we passed through there on the way to a rally a couple of years ago. If it fits into your plans Skaneateles is a great town to visit.
We stayed in a really nice place just outside of town called Skaneateles suites, rooms are like individual cabins with a front door and a rear patio door and your own patio.
Bothe the town and suites have websites. I imagine Labor Day week end, booking ahead would be a necessity.

We had a rally there a few years ago, other than a lot of rain it was a great trip. Check out the Curtiss Wright airplane museum, it was really neat.

The Curtiss Museum is great advice! Try the Cayuga Wine Trail. Route 89 is a nice ride. Watkins Glen is a GREAT stop. The Corning Glass factory is always interesting too. Skaneateles offers good food (Doug's, Johnny Angels, Bluewater Grill) and nice scenery. It'd be easy to incorporate all of those into a long weekend.

Thanks for the tips everyone. the weather looks great for the weekend , so really looking forward to the trip. The girls definitely want to take in some winerys along the way. Is there some waterfalls in the area ? and also is there a amish farmers market in the area?
