I removed my oil pump and noticed some gouges in the insige oil pump cover. Any idea what might of caused this? Thinking a metal particle went circulating thru but the screens should have caught them on my Voyager 1700 engine. Could there be a wear issue creeping in that needs to be checked?

SO thats how they werk?

LOL

back in 1974 the kickstarter went bad on my 125, Suzuki hid the kickstart gears INSIDE the crankcase necessitating the whole damn thng coming apart. Dad said he would help as he was a heavy equipment mechanic, I remember my astonishment and fear I had seeing all those gears when the engine was torn apart...I thought my head was gonna explode!

I've been riding BMW twins for 30 years and German twins certainly respond best to crisp accurate shifting. Almost like za Commandant says, "You VHILL only shift ZISS vhay!"

That being, get the revs up a bit, preload the shifter to take up slack, use only 1/3 clutch lever travel, and a very brief/quick throttle chop, all done neatly together, and you get very quick accurate shifts. I have found my 1600 Classic likes that technique also. Thing is, big v-twins shift and accelerate best when the least engine rpm momentum is lost between shifts. Using this technique keeps the revs up and momentum going.

Me too Ray, I do not try anything inside the motor cases. I always end up with extra parts when I am done.

" Know what you Know and Pay someone to do what you don't know" It's been working for me now for many years. Low brain power does come at a cost though.
