My Chain Tensioner Repair
I have a 2003 1500 Nomad FI model with 37,000 miles and knew it was time for the Chucksters extenders. I wasn't gonna strip down the bike for the front cylinder tensioner to be accessible and I just didn't have the patients to try it with the crossover tube in place. But,, I found the perfect piece of heat shrink at work to allow me to cut the plenum in 2, do the tensioner work, and repair the tube. I had plenum cut, the tensioner out, new end added, and plenum back together in less than 20 minutes.
Here you can see where I cut the plenum about 2 inched in from the outer edge. Used a dermal with a cutting wheel to make the cut. After the extension on the tensioner was done I put the plenum back together with the heat shrink.

Here is what the inside of the heat shrink looks like. It has a heavy duty heat activated glue inside of it. It is made of thick shrink materials and is electrical industrial grade for high heat usage. Glue covers the area side the shrink really well when shrink is heated.

I thought about doing that when I did mine but couldn't find that material. Great job.

Clever idea. So how did the extenders go?

The shrink is only part of a performed high dollar piece that was being thrown away from a con-x being removed from a job site I'm working on. It is made for high heat electrical applications. That is some thick heavy materials. It was removed from what looked like this. About $150 dollar part.
