1,000 mile trip to MO

This last weekend I made a trip up to see someone special in Jefferson City, MO and took the bike because I just felt the need for a good long ride. I left Thursday night about 8 p.m. from Mesquite and arrived at 7:30 am. It got considerably colder as the ride went on and fatigue started to set in, but I got food and coffee and arrived safe and sound. No deer decided to cross my path but I did see some eyes on the side.

The ride home I left at 7:30 am and got to my BACA chapter meeting at 5. One problem, I didn't put any sunscreen on and the lower part of my face looks like a damn tomato! But what a ride.

However, and a question for you long riders here. Do you ever get a pain in your right side from holding the throttle so much? I noticed it on the ride home. When I pulled my arm back, like in a rowing motion, it hurt and I had to keep stretching. Anyone ever felt that? and if you did, any idea of the cause?

We call that getting "stoved up". On long trips I get stinging pain between my shoulder blades and in my neck. Hopefully the risers will help. A throttle lock or cruise control would be a big help Jeff. My right hand would get numb holding the throttle on long trips. It's great to be able to let it go and wiggle the fingers or just rest the right hand on my lap. I do the same with the left hand after the right is rested. Makes a huge difference on a long trip. Liz and I have both a throttle rocker and a Vista Cruse on the throttle. The throttle rocker keeps you from having to grip so hard releaving the muscle tension in the forearm. If it is set right you don't have to grip at all if you don't want to as the rocker will rest on the heel of your hand. Rick and I was at the Lake saturday. Wish we had known you was close we would have stopped in to see you.

I was a bit occupied. I don't think I've put anything out here, but I separated from my wife last October and have been living on my own since. So I've been getting to know old friends, rediscovering old classmates again and living life like I never did. So that's part of why I didn't say anything.

As far as your original thread, I take two Tylenol before I leave. Helps me anyway.

Jeff I totally understand! When my first wife left me and we divorced, I pretty much took the opportunity to do all the things I never did as a teenager considering I married the first time at 18. After the divorce I pretty much played, dated, and stayed drunk for the next 3 years. Staying drunk is something I would NOT recommend to anyone. I finially met Liz and we have had a very good 26 years together.

I would say to you to find and do what seems and feels right for you. I hope you will always remember that you have become and always shall remain my friend. Good luck and I wish you all the best that life has to give.

When a person goes through a divorce, they have the right to do just about anything at the spur of the moment.

Cudos to you Jeff. Get out and live life like you should. You were in Jefferson City at the same time I was in St. Louis.

Oh and getting a throttle lock will help immensely. And the Tylenol suggestion wouldn't hurt either.

I haven't had any pain on long rides except my tail bone. I have a throttle rocker and the thumb lock cruise but I only use it long enough to get the feeling back in my hand when it goes numb. I have done 16 hours in one day a few times. With a 1500 carbed bike I get to stop for gas at least every 90-100 miles so I get a few minute break pretty often. Never had pain in my side, shoulders and arms. I have stock risers, stock seat and no highway pegs. I guess the stopping so often eliminate most of the pains.
