I'm glad you all are still around and riding, have a safe
season and stay healthy.

State tags here are $45 for Mc's and $65 for cars. They want $105 for
my wife's vanity plate this year.
But we are one of the more exspensive states to live in.

The last time I renewed the tags on the Nomad (Sept 2010) it was $131.39 for taxes, $9.25 for tags and $1.50 "air quality" fee.

Since taxes reduce each year as a vehicle gets older, it's going to be a long time until the Harley is that inexpensive to register.

I'm considering a custom plate, just trying to decide if it's worth the extra $50/year on top of the other charges.

I purchased a Barber's Motorsports tag the first year I owned my Nomad. Cost me $50 for it. I still have the tag but the next year I went back to the plain tag. I just couldn't justify the extra $50 every year.

Plate fees are cheap here. It's the excise tax (I think) that seems to be expensive. It will cost me about $100 when I get new tags next month and all they'll give me is a new sticker. For an extra $100, I can get a personalized Mason plate. (About $50 extra for Mason and another $50 for the personalization.) I might do just that.

So you don't have to pay vehicle or property taxes on your vehicles every year? You just pay for tags, and that's all?

This is a foreign concept to me, I'm so used to getting screwed annually by the state for each of my vehicles.

Changing the subject slightly, how has the Ultra been performing, how satisfied are you with the bike, is it more or less expensive to maintain the HD as compared to Nomad?

Ride safe, ride long.

The Ultra has been performing fine. I added a Dynojet PCV and Arlen Ness "Big Sucker" air cleaner assembly so it runs a little cooler. Oil changes are a little more expensive, because I won't use Rotella in it like I did the Nomad. Being an air cooled bike, I run a heavier oil in it. Other than that, maintenance costs have been minimal. I am very satisfied with it, so far.

I use Mobil 1V-Twin 20w-50 in the engine and Bel-Ray gear oil in the tranny.

Everyone is renewing tags here. Just did mine last week and they were just over $90 for the Nomad and $60 for Krystal's Burgman.
