Going after my 47th state!!!

I've been looking for the opportunity to get out on the bike and do a long ride this summer, but fortunately work has been great and super busy, making things very difficult. Photography is somewhat seasonal, which makes it even more difficult.

Fortunately, I have a large shoot tomorrow and then have a large break until the 13th. I'm going to take off and get my 47th state on two wheels, Alaska!

This picture was taken off the coast of Maine a couple years ago.

Wish me luck!

I think I am the only other member who has done the ride to hyder.i had considerable rain
when I made my ride which was the last week in aug. and the first week in sept.i would
advise a heated vest as 50 degrees with rain is cold.also be sure to go to the bear viewing area just out of hyder where you can photograph the brown bears feeding on salmon in the creek.don't forget to get hyderized while there.remember that bear spray
is not permitted in Canada.good luck and stay safe.

Lot of bikers go to Hyder when the weather's good. If you plan on spending the night you might want to make sure a room is available if you haven't already. Of course you have to eat at The Bus. Going in to Hyder from Stewart was easy other than the road going from asphalt in Canada to dirt in Hyder. No customs, nothing. But going back into Canada at Stewart there is a customs entry, just like from the lower 48 into Canada and Canada into the lower 48. You'll have to get gas in Stewart and if you plan on leaving early it may be better to gas up before going into Hyder. Also, I needed a tire mid-trip so had one shipped to Prince George Yamaha going up, it was waiting coming back. Timing was perfect and the folks at PG Yamaha got me in and out quickly. Take a bunch of pics and watch for the bears!

If it was just me I'd probably be camping, but I'll be riding with a few buddies and the group consensus was to stay in hotels. It makes packing a heck of a lot easier! All the hotels have already been reserved.
