Sometimes you are plain lucky

Yesterday afternoon, my son Bill was out for a ride (Ducati). As he was following a car exiting a small town, an on coming car stopped to make a left hand turn, directional is on, young couple and small child in the back seat.
Yeah, he knows the scene, he is watching.
A pickup truck is coming up behind the car that is stopped, and it isn't slowing down... 50 mph zone.
As the car in front of him is passing the the stopped car, the lady notices the truck isn't stopping and gets on the gas. By her making more room in the road, Bill got on the throttle to swerve around to the right of the car in front of him, into the gravel he goes...
At the same time, car parts are flying and the (formerly) stopped car is now rocketing across the road at him. He feels a brush on his left shoulder and his left leg and the bike is pushed out to the right. He has gotten by, but, thinks he has been hit. He gets stopped and is happy he didn't end up in the trees next to the road. He can't believe it, not a mark on him or the bike. It had to be the air pressure of the impact and the car flying at him.
The lady of the car in front of him is running at him, gives him a big hug, and says she is happy he is still alive.
They turn and go back to the wreckage, and people are pulling a badly injured 3 year old out of the crushed car ( the child is silent, lifeless and a real mess). The child was air lifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and was listed as having serious conditions.
There are no skid marks from the pickup truck, so I guess he was not paying attention. The back bumper of the car is pushed to within 20 inches of the front seat.

My son was extremely lucky, we have not heard of the child's condition or if it will survive.

Some times it is hard being a parent.....

Gerry,

Glad to hear that your son came through that OK. Really hate to hear of that sort of incident. I hope the child survives.

Glad to hear this turned out Gerry. It has always been dangerous on a bike; but it seems more and more "crazy" lately -- especially this year.

Hope the young child survives also.

It sounds like it could have been a lot worse if not for some quick actions.

Thank the Lord that your son came out of this unscathed. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the young boy who wasn't as fortunate.

Well it's been a week and they still aren't letting any news out. No names of anyone and they haven't said whether the 3 y o child is doing OK and is male or female.
Pretty strange...

Jim, They haven't released anything. Very Strange. All the news agencies have the same release posted from the accident report.
