I was honored to share a meal with Bud "Idaho" Smalley today. He had let me know a while back that he would be swinging through my neck of the woods on his way back to Idaho from Maggie Valley. I received a call from him this afternoon. He was in Calhan, hiding out under an Econo Lodge awning from a viscous thunderstorm that left a couple of inches oh hail on the road. He must have brought it with him, as we haven't seen rain in almost a year! Once it let up, he made his way on into the Springs where I met up with him and we hit a diner and grabbed a bite and visited for awhile. He headed north from here and is going to stop for the night in Cheyenne, WY, then blaze on home tomorrow.
It was great to see him and catch up. For those of you have not had the chance to meet Bud, try to make a rally when he's going. Good man and proud to call him my friend.
Safe travels Bud. Thanks for stopping by!

I got a chance to visit with Bud at the MV rally. Not very long but long enough to remember eachother from Custer. Now that you mention it, he wasn't at the dinner last night. He had to have left early Thursday morning to make it to CS for lunch today. Bud did some rolling.

I had the pleasure of riding with Bud on Day 2 at MV. He and I did a trip (just the two of us) down the Parkway and up to the highest point in SMNP. Nice guy.

Bud is an animal! When he told me where he stopped Thursday for the night, I realized he did over 900 miles that day. He's the real deal for sure!
We first met in Utah in 2008 and rode the last stretch in to Mesquite together, along with Spence (Wolfman) and Candace.
