Motorcycle Cruiser Nomad comparison
The October issue compares the Nomad against other hardbaggers.
Here is some of what they say (they did pick the Nomad as the winner). "The Nomad was the most popular bike whenever the roads got "twisty. Even though it ranks in the middle in terms of ground clearance, the Nomad's stiff chassis and predictable steering makes this the bike to beat in the mountains. " The Nomad won unanimously, and by a fair margin." "The Vulcans suspension felt a wee bit sportier, this making it the easiest to navigate at slow speeds and in city traffic, but somewhat jarring on the big bumps. The Kawasaki's brakes were superb compared with the other two, and the saddlebags held an impressive amount of gear." It was being tested against a Road King, Rocket III, Victory Vision, and a Star Royal Star. Magazine testers always get worse mileage than most posters on boards, because they ride them like they don't have to pay for them. They got the same mileage out of the Nomad that I have always gotten. They got, 26.7-41.1 for an average of 35.7. That is just about how mine played out on the 1,800 mile ride to the western rally; the high low and average. Good to see that they still like the Nomad. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

We should invite them down for a bafflectomy and a Spectre, and then they'd really go "Wow!" ;)

All of the magazines that have compared the Nomad to another have given the Nomad the thumbs up. One of those reviews was why I really looked at the Nomad. After riding it for the first time I could understand why!!!

Magazine review was one of the main reasons that I looked at the Nomad. Dealer didn't have much of an impact on my decision.

Well I finally got to read the article, my magazine came today. I'd say the Nomad more than held its own against some formidable competition. Further proof that we made the right choice, eh?
But what's with these test riders? 5'4", 5'7", 5'9". Nobody is above average height! Do they hire little people to test and review motorcycles? How about a bigger cross-section of riders, maybe someone over (gasp!) 6 feet? Nothing against shorter people, mind you - but get some big 'ol boys on them scoots, Hoss!

I'm glad someone else noticed the sizes of these editorial types. Seems like they are all a little on the diminutive size. They should get Todd and Davidjones to do the tests.

Rats, now the secret is out so everyone will have Nads.
Actually, I am amazed at how much better the Nomad is in the twisties than my old Volusia was. Lot's more power and so much more stable in the corners that it is striking. Volusia used to bounce in corners and had a hard time holding a line, lots of shifting to drive the thing. Nomad just cruises gracefully in 5th gear. Thanks for the post Dan.

Hey, I don't care if the secret is out. The Nomad deserves to be in 1st place! It's a great bike, with classic lines, plenty of power, lots of room in the hard bags. What is there not to like? Maybe with more looking and buying the 'Mad, more will be joining the forum as well.

Another thing I don't understand is they all liked the stock seat. Either their posteriors have mutated like an apes from years in the saddle, or they don't log enough miles to "feel the pain".
