OK.......Are you actually riding or checking this on a stand.....To really get a feel fo this you should ride the bike.....'sounds' like you have a worn front drive pulley, did you use that graphite??.....Have you checked the movement on the front pulley up/down movement and push/pull on the output shaft....IF you have any play on the output shaft at all you a shaft bearing gone. After going this far those are the only possibilities as far as I can see....and frankly I'm leaning to a drive pulley. Think I'll shoot out your way on Saturday...Sunday is a bit tight....

Yes riding the Bike and yes I checked for movement in the front pulley for bearing play. not never used graphite but used CLR metal cream cleaner.

my thoughts too but why did you replace yours and do I need to replace the belt too? It says it the service manual to replace pulley if chrome is wearing off. How to get pulley off? any special tools?

Well, I replaced it because it looked worse than your's and there was noticeable wear, so much that I could feel it with my thumb nail..I didn't replace the belt nor the rear pulley...I would have done that IF there were other considerations. but to me, it appeared the front pulley was toast... You will know if the chrome is going..and that's not likely . There will be ridges on the rear pulley teeth..and you will be able to see and feel them....I'd concentrate on the front ...To get the front off you'll need a good breaker bar or 1/2 inch torque wrench and a 27 or 30 mill socket...you'll find the specs in the service manual..

so you got rid of your noise doing this or did it make any difference? had another couple rides tonight and this is where the noise is coming from the front pulley area. Its driving me crazy.

So there should be no in/out movement of the output shaft when pushing/pulling on it?

So I got my belt clean with brush and soap done it twice. Pulley cleaned with CLR metal cream cleaner and there is a big difference in noise. Not all gone but to the point where it is not annoying any more. I think the previous owner had belt dressing on it and it got buildup. I am going to give it another cleaning and see if it's even better because I got a lot of dirt the first two time I cleaned it.

Ok so I installed a new front pulley and noise is all gone. What a difference to ride. Can't believe that was it. Rear wheel is all lined up equal on both side and NO noise. Thank you to TheWizard!!

#1 - Your stick-to-itedness on this issue is top notch - Almost a little obsessive - but it sounds like you got it. (this meant as a compliment not as a slam). 100,000 Forum Bonus points to you!

#2 - Where does your rear belt track now? Right Side, Left Side, Center?

Belt tracks to the left on the rear pulley and about 2mm off the left front pulley flang. No difference in belt tracking, same as before but with NO noise!!
