Road the Olympia Toy Run today. This is an annual ride through downtown Olympia, WA. It isn't a long route, more like a parade. The streets are lined with families waving and kids putting their hands out to high-five the riders on the way by. Good time for all. Later there is entertainment and all the toys and money are donated to The Salvation Army for distribution to needy kids. Last year's event was attended by an estimated 17,000 - 20,000 bikers.

The temps were in the 70's this weekend, so today
Crystal and I rode up to Mt. Magazine Lodge for lunch.

About 130 miles round trip.

Rode up to Eldridge, AL for the Eldridge Children's Home Toy Run. We rode up on Friday to attend the sponsor and long rider dinner. On Saturday we went to the Toy Run and Car Show. By estimates, there were over 1,000 bikes and 2,000 people there yesterday. They raised at last count $79,000 for ECH. It was great seeing riders of all brands and all walks of life helping out this cause.

Our ride was about 1,200 miles round trip over 2 days. Got out for another 100 or so miles today for late lunch.

Went for a ride today, 64 degrees partly sunny. Rode about 92 miles on mostly country back roads.

Ride to Nothing

Rode out to Nothing Arizona and hung out at the Allmart. About 200 miles round trip. Hey.......don't laugh. It's a town in the U.S.A. with 0% unemployment rate. Actually a nice ride. Starts out as Sonoran Desert, then to Joshua tree forest, rolling hills, semi-mountainous with granite boulder fields, river bottoms still with a bit of fall colors, couple creek/bridge crossings. Nice day for a ride and light traffic. A little chilly with a morning temp in the high 40's but great to be able to wear all the gear without dying of heat stroke.

Allmart in Nothing, AZ; without the pics, I would think you were joking.

I envy you guys who still can ride in December.

Believe it or not, last week we were still in the 80's. I prefer days like today where there's a little chill in the air.

This is my original home area. 2000 miles to the north east. I miss it, but as an adopted state Arizona is tough to beat.

It was 43 this morning, went up to 63. While cooler than it has been, I am not freezing yet. I'll miss this come July.

I have to admit. I kinda felt like a wuss this morning donning all the gear, but once we got out of town and started rolling along at 65 mph I was darned glad I had it on. Low 40's on a bike is a bit chilly no matter where you come from.

When biking in cooler weather, I always think back to my youth and snowmobiling in sub-zero temps. Never even thought twice about jumping on a sled and hauling ass across the Lake Michigan ice at 60+ mph. My blood must've thinned out some.

Another transplant from cold country eh ponch? You moved to Arizona from Colorado didn't you?

I lived in Iowa for 9 years, but I am from Long Island as evidenced on the map I posted in this thread. Iowa is colder than LI or AZ and LI is colder than AZ too. They've already got the first snow in Iowa and it's already hit the low teens for a low. No I don't miss that at all. That said I am not enamored with the heat here.
