Oil Filler Plug

Has anyone replaced the oil filler plug on their 1600 Nomad ?
I don't care for the stock slotted Kawasaki plug. It's bit of a pain and I don't want to buy a Kawasaki tool just to change the oil. I've tried just a screw driver and dinged the edges a bit. Anyone know of an aftermaket plug that looks nice ?

I felt the same way you do.....There is a screw-in plug in the Kawasaki catalogue which I ordered thru the dealer which solves the problem and is relatively inexpensive...Hope you make out, Brick

Most of us use a 1/2 inch FENDER washer, or a silver dollar..

Gosh, if I only spend 85 more dollars, then they will ship it to me for free. You must be on the bad list.... or in Canada.

I would take a picture but it's simple.

Get about a 4"or longer bolt. I had a large coffee can of some.
Get the right sized washer that fits the bolt and the oil filler plug as per Mac, God of Nomad Maintenance and he "KNOWS".
Find 2 nuts that fit this bolt. Same can for me!
Lock the washer between the nuts at the end of the bolt and you have special tool 187A-52 - Mac.
Get 2 washers and put one in your travel tools.

I made my wrench from a large washer cut in half and a piece of steel rod. It works as well as any store bought tool, and no shipping charges either. ;)

I bought a cheapo Harbor Freight Drag Link socket set. Two of them work without filing and the biggest one will also work with some filing. I think I paid six bucks.

I had the same problem but mine was in so tight I had a mechanic at the dealership remove it with the proper tool and he still buggered it up. So I ordered this off Ebay for 15.00 and it works and looks great.

I keep a large washer in the right saddlebag but I use a silver dollar when I change the oil. Works really good.

I use a $1 dollar token I had from an Indian Casino visit years ago. It's the size of a silver dollar and works like it was designed to fit in the oil filler cap. I toss it in the bottom of the saddle bag when not in use.

I also have one like Eric that luckily was on the bike when I bought it. I wasn't sure at first if that was what came on the 1600 Nomad, but I guess not. I remember the slotted one on the 1500 Classic I had and am sure glad I have this one.
