Finally had to replace my Mich Commander 11 after 27K miles! Not to bad!
Cost me 60 bucks plus 7 for tax at the dealer shop.
My shinko front tire justs keeps goin, still looks fine after at least 36K miles!

I had 22K on my Mick Com II rear and it still had a couple thousand left in it. There just a dang good tire. I'm running the 180/65-16 and they cost about $178 so I went with the Shinko this time since my mileage has dropped from about 1oK a year to 2K. Figure the $110 Shinko would serve my needs now. Thinking about going to a Shinko front when my current Bridgestone wears out.

my previous bike I had a Turanza car tire and liked it, my recently acquired Nomad had a Dunlop CT already on it and I hated the way it handled, for economic reasons at this time I went with the Shinko 777HD 180/65 and I'll say I couldn't be happier. After a few miles to scuff it up a little it handles and rides great

Since my last post, I bought a matching 777 HD for the front and eventually got them both mounted about 6 weeks ago. 5,000 miles so far and all is well. The profile on the rear is beginning to exhibit flatness but it still rides/handles quite well. When I bought it I hoped to get 7,000 miles out of it. So far I feel I am on course to get that much and then some, maybe 8 out of it.

5000 miles in 6 weeks? Holy moly! Thats about forty thousand miles a year! I'm not an advocate for running a car tire on a bike but you may want to consider it...and start saving for a new bike!

If only I could sustain that for a full 12 months! Not in Hellinois

Since I got the bike the second week of May I've put almost 10k on it. I love riding it. I figure on trying a Mich Com II next time. The darkside has intrigued me though. I see a lot of chatter on facebook about it.

Contrast that with something my buddy uttered last year. We were taking a break one time and I mentioned the back tire on his Dyna was looking rather meager. He says "aw man, and I just got that put on last year. I was hoping I wouldn't need tires but every other year." I laughed and told him each year I hope for needing at least TWO back tires. More tires = more miles = more fun.

I was going to ask this in a new thread but seeing as the tire experts are already in one location this seems to be the best pace to ask.

I am looking at putting on New tires over the winter (unlike many of you lucky folks i dont get to ride all year.)

I will now look at the Shinko's because of everyones reviews here.

But my question is what is the proper size? i have looked online ant it says my 99 nomad runs 150/80B16 front and back.

While looking at the Commander ll it only says Rear tire? Can I put a Rear tire on the front? You have to excuse my unknowable self i am still kinda knew to bikes.

So any information would be appreciated, thank you.

Hey Deekeman I've read it's possible to use a rear tire on the front if you reverse the directional arrow when you mount to rim - basically running them backwards - but I have also read that the sidewall construction is very different, with the rear sidewalls being a lot stiffer since they do not steer and carry a lot more weight. I bet it wouldn't feel very good.

So not i have spoken to a few people who i consider knowing a few things one person said it doesnt matter. The rest, including id-man, say it does. i will go with the majority.

so what i cant figure out then, is if it matters why am i not able to find a front and back tire?

the size is suppose to be the same but it doesnt seem to want to be the right size.

The Shinko has one it is a 230 which seems interesting.

Thanks,

Based on other Nomad owner suggestions I went with a 130/90 up front so I was able to use the 777 HD front and rear. I have about 3,500 miles on the front and would have been the same on the rear, but I picked up a nail after about 1,000 miles. No complaints so far including getting caught in heavy rain a few times.

Brand new set of Shinko 777's installed. HD version on the rear. Great ride so far.

Been a fan of the 230's for years and was disappointed to see they didn't have the right rear size for the new Vacquero. Like the reviews I've seen here so it looks like when the time comes, I'll put 777HD's on it.

Only a couple thousand on my 777HD but so far no complaints. Smooth ride, grips well in the corners, bites good during braking and it holds air (always a good thing!).
