The Searchers

I'm sitting here at home, doing work somebody was nice enough to schedule me for this evening with the TV on in the background. The John Wayne classic "The Searchers" just came on. I get a kick every time I watch it, because in at the start of the movie it says "Texas" and then the camera follows the actress as she walks to the front porch and you see the view of Monument Valley!

So for those of you who did the Monument Valley ride last June with me near Cortez, you thought we were in Utah and Arizona...we were really in Texas! Fooled y'all!

I was watching a Western once and in one of the wide angle panoramic opening scenes there was a contrail in the sky.

Oh yeah, and the Comanche indians that raided the ranch were actually Navajos, a peaceful tribe.

CJ... since you live in AZ... you have to have noticed all the "cowboy" films that were filmed near Sedona, AZ without reference to being in AZ.

I enjoy all of the old John Wayne movies but that particular one doesn't ring a bell with me. Perhaps Ive seen it at one time and didn't get the title. I'll definately have to check it out someday.

It's considered one of the best films of all time and John Wayne said that his character, Ethan Edwards, was his favorite acting role.

It's on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) from time to time. I'd guess Netflix probably has it as well.

I agree - one of if not his best. It was also one if the first movies to really show how vast the west was and how sparsely populated it was just after the War of Northern Aggression.
