Probably just the water pump mechanical seal.

Ok feel very fortunate it was not coming from water pump after all! One thing for sure it is best to find ant leak with engine running at normal temperaturere under pressure so you can see where its leaking, to do this, we took 2 bolts off back of gas tank and propoed it up with a block of wood so we could see where leak was comingpm and s had a tiny pin hole under radiator cap, so was told to use JB weld and all is good knock on wood!

How long has it been since you changed your coolant? If never, I'd do it, and they have the silicone hoses over at Amazon.....

I think there is a way to run the fan by bypassing the temperature sensor so you can listen to the fan while the bike is stationary. Someone more experience will maybe answer.

Just jump the terminals on the temp sensor.
She’ll kick on.

Easiest way is to just let the motor idle with the bike sitting on the stand. If it gets hot enough for it to start spitting water out of the overflow hose and the fan isn't running the fan don't work. I found this out when my fan switch went bad.

As VB Said, just jump across the fan switch wires, she'll come on....
I've replaced about 4 or 5 of the fans on other Vulcans, 2 Temp switches.... For my bike, I got a complete running gear seatup, replacement rad., fan, switch, etc, etc, etc..... Not any problems from mine yet. Of course I have my fan contoller slaved so my fan comes on earlier to help with engine heat, helps the rear cylinder run cooler. This REALLY HAS improved the ring wear in my engines, my fan comes on @ 175-185....

BTW...the only part failure My '05 1600 Classic has had in 76,000 miles was the fan switch at 28K. Other than that its been problem free. Ya gotta luv that!

What I did was just come off my aux. feed line under the tank, I use a external controller mounted on my radiator.....
I used a flex-a-lite electric thermostat from summit....but Amazon has them, too.... Flex-a-lite 33021 - Flex-A-Lite Replacement Adjustable Electric Fan Thermostats Derale and Hayden also make them.... Mine can come on @ 150, but I have mine coming on at about 170-175.... I wire it parallel to the original fans wiring, the controller is just ahead of the coils.... I have a light to light me know when the fan comes on (supersmall bright blue Led)....mounted on my fairing I think of it as a backup system....should this ever fail, your stock system will still come on. After 4 years, I've had -0- problems. Bike runs cooler and is happier, especially when in hotter states.... And just think, its adjustable from about 150 to 220. I can use my fingers under the tank to adjust. I put a piece of foam rubber under the knob to keep road jolts from screwing with my settings.... I have my capillary bulb picking up heat on the radiator back side, right beside the rad. intake hose, (hottest Point), you will probably have to adjust its location, I did.... Just be sure before buying yours can go as low as you want.....while several go down to 150 degrees, some only go down to 170-175.....
