As we age different events come our way, sometime in all of our future we will probably have to make a decision as to go for three wheels, or call it quits. Assuming we get that option.

The problem with cruisers is that the seating position puts all the weight on the bum. I am a big guy without much padding in the bum and that is most of my problem. My tailbone and the two pelvic bones on the bottom contact the seat and after a short time, it hurts and just gets worse. With the typical bucket seat, I can't move around to alleviate it. That is the long and the short of it. With my KZ and to some extent the GPz, I could shift my position a lot more.

The Nomad I own or a Yamaha Venture. If I cant get my right leg out straight and slightly elevated the pain from poor circulation and sciatica would cut short every ride. I sat on a new Gold Wing and the ergonomics are all wrong for me or it would be my first choice, but they are just too cramped. The foot pegs feel like they are directly below me. Because of the flat 6 configuration they have no choice but to put the footrests where they are. I am 58 and the next new bike big bike I own will probably be my last. If I have to trike it one day so be it.

I'm not raiding this conversation, but I started a new thread on three wheelers.
I had a Honda 750/4 and the seat was big and flat. I miss that seat. I have a 1500 nad and I have tried the 16 and the 17, they don't give me as much room. I have stiff hips and knees. I need to be able to move around or get off for a while. So i sympathize with anyone having trouble with the seating position.

My KZ1000 had that big flat seat too. The only bikes that have that kind of seat are enduro/adventure bikes like the R1200GSA/KTM990/KLR650/Buell Ulysses. Riding a three wheeler just isn't in the cards right now...

I tried to swing my leg over a KTM 990, with my rain pants on, Tore the crotch out big time, took them off and threw them in the trash. That bike is for tall people.

I'm 5 '9", and I should have known better than to try and get on that bike. But I wanted to try it out. Never did take it for a ride.

After a few rides on my Honda V65 and the Nomad my wife doesn't ride very much. She misses the seat on Honda 750/4.

FWIW, there is a seat company out there, that sends you a kit, and you mix the ingredients then sit in it to make a mold, send it back and they make the seat. There is a guy I met a few years ago that does that for every new bike he buys. He has had 5 BMW's.

I have been going back and forth with the local BMW guy and I am getting disgusted. I may wait until December or January when the dealer is eating spam out of the can. I guess my fall back could always be a Voyager. :)

I haven't been a Voyager, but I have sat on most of the BMW's, they won't let me test drive one. (I guess I have a certain look in my eye.)
If I had the money I would find a dealer to let me try one. I like their seats. Here's a twist I test rode a Triumph Speedmaster, and I liked it alot, if I had to downsize that would be my choice.I tried the Rocket tour, it is so big and powerful it might suit you. You should check it out if you haven't. It had a big seat.

The rocket tour doesn't even have cruise control. I wish they would get serious with that bike and get some features on it.

I've looked at the R1200RT and GS Adventure. Haven't test rode them as my wife said she didn't want to ride on that... So I need to look at a K1200LT I guess. I liked the GSA the best. Problem is the closest dealer with a LT is 120 miles away. In NY we had 3 or 4 BMW dealers in a 25 mile radius and at least half a dozen Kawasaki dealers.
