Even the smallest things....

Sometimes even the smallest things seem to affect me when I'm riding. For instance, I just got a new pair of gloves last night. Now usually gloves stretch so I buy them a little tight to start out with & then they don't loosen up too much. Well this pair have a lot of fancy stitching and I'm not sure thet're going to loosen up enough.

Anyhow I wore them today, and it's like wearing new boots that aren't broken in yet. They just seemed to throw me off my game a little while I was riding. In fact, I actually stalled the bike, and that's something I virtually never do. The new glove were just throwing off my clutch control a bit.

I ran into this same problem when I bought a full face helmet. It just threw me off while I was riding. I didn't feel right and therefore didn't feel safe.

So here I was with my fancy new high-zoot armored gloves, and because they haven't loosened up I really didn't feel safe.

Same thing happened when I bought new boots.

It's amazing how just little things like gloves can upset your riding.

I know what you mean Caddmann, a new helmet does it to me also. So does putting some extra insulation on in the winter, and using my winter gloves. Everything is just a little off in those situations.

Once you get comfortable riding in general, and then get comfortable specifically to your bike and gear, it doesn't take much thought at all as far as operating the bike goes. You still have to watch out for traffic etc, but actually operating the bike doesn't take much thought at all.

If you have something break your normal concentration ( or lack of concentration) everything is different.

I hate riding with my winter gloves on, I don't seem to use them enough to ever get used to the extra thickness etc. and I experience what you are describing.

Glad it's not just me. :)

Not as funny as most think. When I issued new portable radios to the PD motor officers last year I warned them about the extra weight. Non-riders thought I was nuts, after all it was just a little over a pound difference between the old and new radios. More than one officer came back and made the comment that it threw them off just a bit and thanked me for the warning.

My wife shuffling around on the back seat makes me forget about whatever else is on my mind.
