Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
Just wondering if you guys have ever noticed what I am about to mention. I went for a ride today and didn't go but about 50 miles on. Just an easy ride to get out in the nice weather.
When I came home I immediately plugged in the battery maintainer and it started charging. It charged 58 minutes before the green light came on indicating that the battery was fully charged. My question is, is this normal. It seems that riding that much would have charged the battery completely. Obviously not as the charger charged the batter for that amount of time. Is this normal, or do I have some type of problem? Have others noticed this after a ride and you put it on the charger? Gene

Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
I've had it do that with both my bike and my car. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
Although rare I've heard that usually means your bike is ready to throw a rod or the alternator is coming apart!
Ok OK just kidding ANR If your charger is a "varible" charge variety what is happening is when you plug it in it defaults to charge then reads the demand then adjust the amperage to the current need of the battery. Mine does this......

Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
Hmmm...funny, but this isn't a problem if you ride your bike enough.

Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
Thanks Bob and Brad. Brad always appreciate your humor.
CJ, I ride the ole bike every day unless it is raining. I would think a ride of 50 miles or so would keep it fully charged. I keep the charger hooked to it when I'm not riding. Have noticed one thing since using the charger. When I start the bike up it keeps running without having to use the throttle. Before I started using the charger it would always go dead the first time it started unless I used the throttle to keep it running. Brad, seems you were right I went out and checked on my cats a little bit ago and dadgum it, sure enough there was a rod lying on the cement.

Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
the charger is probably keeping the high idle battery overide dohicky functioning at a level just below connecting rod reciprocating mass vibration damper....

Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
I have a 2007 Nomad and the only time the Shumaker is hooked up is when the bike is in winter storage. I never hook it up during the riding season.
I think you guys who plug it in after each ride are a little anal ;) But there is a lot of that going around on this site. I'm going to keep on just using the charger in the off season to see if you guys battery lasts longer than mine. :)

Battery Charger/Maintainer Question
Well what the auto float charger does, depends... That outta be anal enough
if you have add on lamps the battery may not be at full state of charge wat shut down, or if you have anything ON at shut down like I do all the time, then I have taken from the battery with no way to put it back. My add on lamps 4 of them are totally independant of the key switch, as I use lights at night parking the bike, getting my junk lined up and away and watchin my wife wiggle... I'ld call it typical. I use the charger all year long any time I am not riding.. In winter the seats and battery come indoors in the cellar. -40 below is too cold for the stitching in the shrinking stiff vinals seats to suit me. So they, with the battery live at apx 55 degrees+.
