Don't forget the Oil Plug Gasket!

Thanks CaddmannQ for the oil change info. Sounds easy to change the oil from the side. I plan to do my own service work when possible. It is too far to travel to the dealers. I ordered the Jack Adapter today from Idaho. Next time I am near a Sears store I plan to get a motorcycle jack.

OK, I just changed my oil and took out the side bolt which is what I am hearing by all of you, contains a screen and is sealed by an O ring. I did notice, afterwards that there is a plug in the bottom. Why is there 2 options?

Honda (I know this isn't a Honda) recommends that the washer be replaced with every oil change since their's is aluminum.

Two options because . . . life is good. :)
Or, the drain plug is designed for normal changes and the screen plug to pull less frequently to clean the screen.
But there is nothing wrong with cleaning the screen every time since you're under there any way.

The only time (I think) the drain plug has ever been used on mine was the 1st (600 mile) change done by the stealership. Every time since, I've changed it thru the prefilter (screen) and so far, still using the oem o-ring. I do wipe it down and check it each time.

Cadmann, I do ride it to trailer week.

and Ring - It has lots of new parts on. Between the driveway gremlin pushing it over while I was cleaning it, the cable on the lift breaking and dropping it 3 feet, wrecking it last June, it has a complete new front end, frame and miscellaneous parts that don't hold up hitting a car at 40MPH.

However, I did stay at the Holiday Inn last night!

My name is Valdez and I'm a chromeaholic.....

Valdez; you should have enough damaged parts to almost build another bike at the rate your going.
