Quick Question - Windshield Bolts

I believe I read someplace that the bolts and acorn nuts that hold the windshield and framework together are two different sizes.

I took a quick look at mine and I come up with 4 short ones and 6 long ones. Is this correct? I'm going to replace them all and put them on correctly. Everyone one of them has one type of issue or another (too tight, rounded an acorn, stripped a hex, won't go any tighter, etc...)

Any idea of the total cost and what the exact lengths of the two sizes are?

Thanks,

Russ

amount part#
4 ----- 92151-1750 short bolt
6 ----- 92151-1945 long bolt
10 ----- 92210-0220 nut

Don't be shocked if you spend about $40.00

Quick Question - Windshield Bolts

If you buy the hardware from Kawasaki, you're looking at at least $40. The short bolts are 6mmx20, the longer ones are 6mmx25. Don't try to use the 25mm long bolts where you should be using the 20mm bolts, you will destroy them and the acorn nuts trying to get them tight.

Quick Question - Windshield Bolts

Thanks Fellas,

I appreciate it. I don't mind spending the $40 but, I do mind spending it because some ape either used an impact wrench to put the shield together or used the long ones where the short ones are supposed to go or both. I don't know if it's a dealer assembled part or comes from the factory like that but this one got through quality control. I'd rather fix it myself than waste my time at the shop for somethign this simple.

Quick Question - Windshield Bolts

I went to a company that sells standard and metric nuts and bolts and got them all for $4.00.
Might be worth checking out a local shop.

Quick Question - Windshield Bolts

Well, I finally went down to the shop to pick up the nuts and bolts that came in several days ago. On the way home I had a thought...that can be a very dangeroud thing for me.... So I took a quick detour to the local hardware store.

I picked up a dozen stainless lock washers. When I got home, I replaced every nut and bolt on the windshield. On the backside of the windshield, I put the lock washers on before snugging up the acorn nuts. I remember the bolts were plenty long enough to accomodate the washers. They went on for two reasons.

1. So no one would ever have to crank down on the wrenh to get the nuts tightened down.

2. So, if you were to crank down on the nuts, you wouldn't bottom the bolts out and ruin the threads so badley they wouldn't come off again.

You can't see them and, if you were to look, you'd never know they weren't included when the bike was delivered.

Just thought I'd share. I know just about everyone here has had a problem with the windshield that this little thing might solve.
