1600 Nomad Video

For you guys who recently acquired your Nomads....here is an old video I made many years ago (and forgot about) that chronicles all the mods I made to my bike that made it a super comfortable and enjoyable bike to tour on. Maybe you will find a few ideas here you hadn't thought of. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding the mods.....

Very nice. I counted the top rails, risers, Mustang, hand deflectors, Airlites, pipes (Cobra) among your upgrades that I have too. I also cut my windshield and have ISO grips with throttle Boss. What kind of passenger backrest is that?

A good many of those things will also fit the 1500's.

On my 1500 i was able to have a trailer hitch and still retain the lower bag rails. i am sorry to say on the 16 I had to remove my lower bag rails for the trailer hitch. if there is any way to install these I can't figure it out, other than cutting welding and sending out for chrome. I was seriously bummed out but i needed hitch and i didn't need the lower rails.

Come each Fall I think about hand guards too, but so far i haven't done them.

Mac,
The National Cycle #5511 are the hand deflectors you need. You will not find a pair listed for the Nomad...but those ones work great. They simply mount under your mirror and the bracket is super easy to bend into the perfect position. They work best if you keep them roughly 90 degrees to the bike frame....not swept back like you would think.

I would probably just make them from local lexan and some hard alloy. I just made new 'stays that fold of hard aluminum for the clam shell on my HF trailer with the sears car top carrier. The oem things were dreadful. They were ok if the shell was on top of a car, but to have to stoop over for me just a killer. Now the top will be up very high and not be in my way open anymore. I liked the look of the amber lights on my bike too, but hated that light at night, and wasn't sure they made me easier to see in day light either. I switched back to white light just last week. The better pattern passing lamps are the small piai ones on my stock lowers. I'ld like a 3rd set of passing lamps for Mr. Moose too. No idea where to mount them as I run cooler months with desert dawg crash bar covers. I just removed them last Sunday. i was getting cooked and I am not one that likes getting cooked,

To an extent. The bike I have now is the way Kawi should have upgraded it in 2009...or something close to it. A local guy owns it now and I even ride with him on occasion!

Nice video! I'm a new Nomad owner, and the previous owner is a friend and member here. He has done many of these mods but your video has given me an idea or two...
