Do you know if the plastic oil gear has been replaced? how many miles on it?

I'd definitely check to see if it has the plastic gear in it or not. Other than that not many serious problems other than the shifter forks can bend after quite a few miles, causing the bike to jump out of gear.

As mentioned, other than the oil gear, a pretty solid bike. At that age, I would consider changing all the hoses (vacuum, coolant, brake, etc.)
You should also go to the "New Members" section and introduce yourself, and tell us a little about you.

My two cents would be to
1st. order the Clutch Side Cover Gasket. 2.nd. remove the side cover. 3. look for either a Plastic Oil Pump Gear (POG) or Steel Oil Pump Gear. 4. All 98 and 99 model Nomads have the POG However Kawasaki did Warranty Service on those years (if the owner brought them in) and replaced it with the steel gear. 5.
