Your opinion on an enclosed trailer.

Here is the enclosed trailer I am looking at. It is a brand new Interstate brand trailer. He is asking $2,695; I am offering $2,500 flat (tax, title, and license). I think he'll take my offfer.

Other comparible trailers with a low-profile (only 82 inches high); vinyl interior; two motorcycle chocks & rails (not seen in the pic); 33" side door; drop rear door; V-nose; and etc. are running well above $3,000 -- some as much as $3,700.

Let me know if you guys think this is a good buy or not. Although I have been looking at trailers for about 6-months to learn what I can; this would be my first. So if any of you have any ideas or input; please let me know. I would appreciate it.

It will be between a used Kenyon open-flat-bed trailer for around a $1,500 or this one. (I still have to wrestle with the parting of my money yet though)

Greg

Your opinion on an enclosed trailer.

Ha! I hear you; and expected some grief.

I try to go two or three times a year long distances to places where the riding is much better. I would rather just get there and then ride rather than burn-time riding getting there. Also; plan on going out west and south during the winter months -- so need a way to get the bike there.

That is a nice trailer and from what I have been looking at in SD a very good price. Around here you can't even get them that nice and they still want $3800 at the manufacturer.
Buy it and then come show it off in Custer.

A friend of mine got one like that for his 1500 Classic, except I don't think he has the side door on it. he paid over 3k for it and pulls it with his Murano.

Your opinion on an enclosed trailer.

I was thinking it was a good price from what I could see. I am going to see it this Saturday; and may just come home with it.

Unfortunately I don't have a great deal of room in my garage -- only a third stall; but I think I'll figure out how to rearrange it to get it in there.

Thanks for your input guys.

Your opinion on an enclosed trailer.

Greg,
I have a Haul-mark enclosed cargo trailer (5/1/2 wide, 10 ft long). I paid $3500.00 for it in Washington State almost 2 yrs ago. Traded in a Doolittle 4 X 8 cargo trailer that was not big enough for my Nomad. The dealer gave me $900.00 for it.

I think you would have a reasonably good buy for what they want.

Don't forget to look at the tie-down brackets on the sides of the floor. If the tie down brackets are recessed, that is a plus. If not, sometimes they get in the way of hauling other stuff. Also, make sure the brackets are fastened through the metal frame of the trailer for extra security. Some manufacturers may only fasten the brackets to the plywood floor.

Your opinion on an enclosed trailer.

I bought the trailer this morning. He wouldn't go below $2,659 which is what I paid for it.

It has a "tie-down" system I hadn't heard of called the "E-Lock" system. To hard to explain; but very nice and quick way to tie-down the bike with a lot of flexibility depending on your need.

Glad I bought. Just sold a second motorcycle I had for the same price so it was a swap-out for me.

Congratulations, Greg! You are going to like it. It will be good for other things too. Maybe you could put a big "Kawanow" emblem in it!! ha ha

So will we get to see it in June? I would like to see that tie-down system.

Your opinion on an enclosed trailer.

I plan on using it to trailer my bike to Custer. Kendra won't ride that far and doesn't want to drive that far following me in the car -- so I am trailering it.

It won't be too bad though; because I will be getting there sooner so I can do some extra riding around in that area.

Just spent several hours putting special carpet down in the trailer (and trimming it out) to protect the plywood flooring.

I'll take some photos and post them. I'll include close ups of the "E-lock" system for tie-downs also.

Looks like a nice trailer. I'm considering something like that as November thru March-April is too long to go without riding so why not do a marathon trip somewhere, park the trailer/Jimmy and go for a 4-5 day circle ride and marathon it back home.

My thoughts exactly Jerry. Plan on doing that several times before the trailer get old.

Trailer is done. Outdoor (foot-scrub) carpet is in and trimmed; wheel chock is installed. Rough-paint strip in door ramp painted-in (for traction in wet whether).

This trailer will work perfect for hauling to where ever I need the bike to be. (Hopefully in warmer weather a couple times during the winter.) Fits perfectly under a standard garage door height; and there is plenty of room left in my third stall -- so parking it in the garage is a cinch.

Happy with the purchase; and will forward the dealer's name to anyone looking for a hauling trailer of any type. They have them all; and at the best price I could find anywhere in the multi-state region -- bar none.
