End of Riding Season

Unfortunately my riding season has come to a halt. Fortunately my girlfriend and I will still be around for the next riding season. We were just west of Lena, IL when I took my eye off the road for a split second and crossed the yellow line coming out of a corner. There was a van heading at us and there was no time to correct, so it was either the van or the ditch. It didn't take long once I hit the gravel on the side of the road and the wet grass of the ditch that we were both thrown from the bike. Luckily she has a fractured clavicle and I have a fractured ankle and both have some road rash. I am thankful that we are both home and mending.

Luckily my guardian angel was riding with me on Sunday, I hope that each one of you stays safe out there and remember to never ride faster than your angel can fly.
John

Heal fast brother. So is the bike a total loss? Do I sense a new nomad or voyager in your future? I see a silver lining.

No, from what I seen the bike just has some cosmetic damage on the right side as we slid down the ditch. The bike did not flip or anything and was still upright leaning on the engine guards on the right side against the ditch. Of course I was already looking at the new voyager for us anyway so we could do longer trips in more comfort. All is on hold for the remainder of the year now however.

Thank you all for the well wishes. We got the bike back on Friday and my friend was able to fire it up and drive it from the garage it was being stored in onto the trailer. So it is only some cosmetic damage with the right mirror I broke off with my head, turn signal, the engine guard is bent up, and the bag on the right side will not close now. Slowly over the next couple of weeks I will work on it as the leg heals. Who knows, there might still be some riding left before the season is done.

Just glad to hear you are around to talk about it. Bikes can be eventually replaced -- you (and your's) cannot.

Look forward to riding with you again soon! Just get ahold of me when you're ready.
