I have been rolling around the idea in my head of crashing the SW Regional Rally in Cortez, CO June 14-16!

I don't think we are going to be making our annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota this year, so that leaves me with an extra week of vacation. The wife has blessed the adventure (although this would be a solo trip for me), and riding in that area would be a real delight! I could add a couple states to my map...maybe even four if I hit the four corners (AZ, UT, NM, CO)!

I am going to make some reservations and see how things shake out! This idea just came to me...and getting to attend two rallies is like having your cake and eating it too... ;)! Seeing/riding the Colorado Rockies and the Canadian Rockies (enroute to the NW Rally in Kalispell) both in the same summer will be a real coupe.... !

Is there a chance in hell anyone else from up this way would like to join me?

Kris,

Have two things to say to you. 1) You can't crash the party in Cortez. You are more than welcome as is any member. You can crash if you have an open invitation. ;)

2) This is not a wild hair. Maybe a Wild Ride with all of the scenery you will be seeing.

Joel,
Good to know! That is definitely new ground for me as I have never been to that part of the country....other than numerous plane changes in Denver, but they don't count.

I would love to have another member or two join me for the trip, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I look forward to seeing some of the guys again who were in Custer last year! I didn't get enough face time with everyone there, so this will be great to be able to take in two rallies in one summer!

This is a real spur of the moment decision, but the time has become available, so why not use it doing what I love....putting my ass in the seat for some long miles! It will be a great tune-up for the jaunt to Kalispell in August!

I'll have to do a couple of long days but that's do-able on the big slabs easy enough. I'm going to spend the evening of Fri Jun 11 in Pendleton, OR., Sat June 12 in Ogden, UT. That would make Sunday's ride a shorter one (384)....putting me in Cortez probably late in the afternoon of the 13th.

I had a great time on my solo run to southern Cal last summer so this will be no different. The rides planned for the SW Rally look spectacular! Riding the "Million Dollar Highway" will be a real treat for sure!

I filed the idea in the back of my mind way back when. There is no way I could commit until mid May (if at all).

If I can I will but right now I would say the chances are very slim. Either way have a great time.

Rick, it's only 2000 km give or take 100 km. One way.
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sourc...95&ie=UTF8&z=5
I'd take the first option via Utah.

Kris, the Four Corners sounds good to me. Watch your fuel gauge, Teec Nos Pos, AZ is the nearest community with a gas station about 6 miles from the Corners.

It's on our To-Do list, we might ride that way this summer, who knows.

E.

It would be awesome if any of you guys wanted to join me. I'll be going right through Provo where Utah Motorcyclist (Jared) lives early Sunday morning June 13. We are going to meet there and ride to Cortez together! There's room for more....but only if you still have the vacation time and $$ to make Kalispell... !

I was just thinking,.....I will be going to Med hat to get my fairing installed late may early June, but my time is very flexable then and I was considering of putting the rally into the mix. But it looks a little too far with the week, week and a half I'll have.

Kris,

Where are you staying in Pendleton? Even if I can't make it to the Rally maybe I will do the Hells Canyon Run, or something and back.

Hi Schoeney,
Hell's Canyon is one of our favourite rides. While you are in the area, ride down to Baker City, OR and treat yourself to great steaks and ale at Barley Browns located on the main drag [probably da best steaks, I've ever eaten in the States, if you like steaks you should come to Canada ].

If you like riding in the desert and have time, continue on to Lakeview. We love the desert:

Cheers,

E.

p.s. I had the unfiltered wheat ale there and it was as good as the one I drink here at home. In fact I'm drinking a pint of hefeweizen as I type this right now, cheers again.
