Vancouver Island, BC - July 16-18, 2010

Sounds like a great route, but WOW, ....Canada sure is getting expensive to travel in. I remember when the exchange rate was around 33%. ( I suppose National Health Care isn't cheap....although I've heard that it can be "deficit neutral ). I think I will just bring my tent and camp out in the parking lot.

At this point and time I have no idea what my work schedule
will look like until the middle of June. I would love to be going

OK guys and gals. I just confirmed my motel reservations for the Vancouver Island ride in July. I was informed by both motels that you need to make your reservations ASAP as they are filling up rapidly, so if you plan on going, be sure to make your reservations right away. If for some reason you can't make it, you can always cancel, but at least you will have your rooms held until you decide you need to cancel. This sounds like a great ride.

We were planning on attending this ride, but as things have a way of doing, we are unable to do it. Even had all our hotel reservations made and confirmed. However things come up in life and we just can't do everything we set out to do. We were really looking forward to doing this ride, but just can't now. The NW rally in Kalispell is still on, though. You all have fun on this ride and take a bunch of photos and post them so we can see what we will have missed.

Hey guys,

The Port Renfrew/Lake Cowichan loop is now paved all the way through - I rode it last year a couple of times. However, Nanaimo is north of this loop and so you'll miss it completely unless you decide to take the ferry from Sidney to Vancouver on your way back down island. Skipping Victoria... unheard of!

Anyway, the run to Goldriver is beautiful and so is the run from Tofino through the Alberni Valley (Cathedral Grove - short but sweet) to Nanaimo.

I'm hoping to meet you at the dock in Nanaimo and ride along for awhile - not sure I'll join you for the whole weekend - saving my hotel dollars for points off this rock.

I'll likely ride all those roads before you get here - afterall, I have only one direction to ride given that I live on the southern tip of an island...ugh... so I'll send you road reports before your trip :)

Thanks for chiming in here! I heard that road from Port Renfrew to Cowichan Lake is now paved, but that loop is a whole different trip I think. No real way to fit that into the three days we already have planned. That don't mean I won't pop up for a weekend to ride that loop... ;).

It would be great if you could meet us coming off the ferry and ride with us. Since you know the area and the route we will be taking...maybe you could suggest an easy place we could pull over to meet up the road a bit as coming off the ferry will be a cluster***k. As we get closer....drop a note and we'll make sure we hook up with you!

Any plans to get off the rock say the first week in August... ;).....like coming to our NW Regional Rally in Kalispell...?? I will be leading a group up through Kamloops and Banff before heading south into Montana. You're welcome to join us....PM me if you would like the itinerary.

Unbelievable - I thought I might have to change my nickname to Chicken cuz I'm not too comfortable getting there on my own, so, yes, I'll definitely PM you for the itinerary (and hey, I was born in Kamloops and hoped to ride through the Rockies this summer - this is looking like the perfect loop, I'm excited!).

So much so that I just phoned Kalispell to see about a room; she's shut down her computer to do her audit (small town America, I love it). I'll call her tomorrow - hope I sleep tonight ;)
