Kris,
You're going to love the the entire area. Banff area is awesome. I'm going to try and make it as well. If so maybe we can hook up.
Rick,
I figured if you could make it...no doubt we could hook up. We actually might have a pretty good posse by the time it comes around... ! Is it really 11 months away.... ????? Oh yeah....we have a whole winter to get through..... :(.

Hotel info for 2010 Rally in Kalispell

Okay Guys (and gals),
I hope to see all of you in Kalispell, MT this next August 3-5 for our NW Regional Rally. How you get there is entirely up to you. That said, I have made my personal travel arrangements that will include a night in Kamloops, BC and Banff, Alberta enroute to Kalispell. I plan on leaving Everett on Saturday morning, July 31, and anyone who would like to join me on this voyage is more than welcome. Arrival into Kalispell, MT will be Monday Aug 2 sometime in the afternoon.

We (Tricia and I) have made hotel reservations at the following hotels:

Saturday July 31, 2010
Kamloops Travelodge Mountview
1225 Rogers Way, Kamloops, BC
250-374-4788
http://www.travelodge.com/Travelodge...L&brandInfo=TL

Sunday Aug 1, 2010
Banff Voyager Inn
555 Banff Ave, Banff, Alberta
1.800.879.1991
http://www.banffvoyagerinn.com/

Everett to Kamloops is about 270 miles
Kamloops to Banff is 308 miles
Banff to Kalispell is 300 miles

This will be a fantastic casual ride through some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Canadian Rockies, then south into northern Montana. It will require that you have a valid passport for border crossings (and hopefully no warrants for your arrest... ).

Like I said....you can never plan this stuff too far in advance as the time will fly and besides....I am bored as hell... ::)! Before you know it summer will be here! Let me know if you plan to join us from the start, or would like to meet up along the way, the more the merrier... !

Having made two long-haul trips on the Nomad this past summer, I am itching for next summer to get here quick so I can hit the road for more open road journeys. This one will be a beauty and I can't wait!

If you plan to join us, please make your hotel reservations ASAP. It would be great to all stay together, but if you prefer a different hotel, feel free to make other arrangements. The hotels I chose seem to have the best rates and seem like decent places.

Cheers....Kris

Hi Kris,

I will be at the Rally and will be riding in Canada but on a different schedule and route. Besides that... you can't stand me for more than a couple nights! ;)

Kris ....Banff is a beautiful area for sure and there is lots to see there. It is a very touristy place and will be flooded with people that time of year. Many years ago, Lorna and I lived in Canmore, which is about 12 miles east of Banff. Of course things have changed considerably since then. We have passed by many times in the past years and have not stopped to look around. Always in to big a rush, I guess.

Anyways, I have the room booked in Banff and look forward to looking around again. :)

Most excellent! It will be nice having our own personal tour guide in the group!

Mike,

Yes it looks like we will be in your area.

Our tentative plan is to ride into Canada after the NW Rally. I am thinking up to Kootenay Lake cross at Balfour, up to Nakusp, cross at Shelter Bay, up to HWY 1 down thru Kelowna, Penticton and drop back into Washington.

Open to suggestions....we prefer the path less traveled.

Thanks
Greg

hi Kris,

I echo what you said in your post! Kalispell, MT is only 1000 km from where I live and we might do it [we were in that area this past summer, Whitefish is a pretty town just north of Kalispell.]

My wife and I also make some [wild] plans for summer 2010:

Wow E....that looks like an ambitious ride! Some beautiful country to be sure!

It would be great if you guys could make the rally in Kalispell. You are more than welcome to join my posse for the ride over if you like, would love to have you along! If you do, be sure you make your hotel arrangements ASAP in all the pertinent places while rooms are still available.... !

Excellent Greg! The ride from Creston to Kootenay Bay/Balfour ferry is only about 50 miles but it is a great road. It is the number 1 rated motorcycle road in southern BC. :) North from there is also very good. One thing you might consider is to avoid the #1 highway from Revelstoke west. Very heavy and slow traffic in summmer. At Nakusp you could go sw on #6 to Vernon. South from there, #97 is also quite busy but its only about 3hours to the Washington border. But its all a great ride and I'm sure you will enjoy it! :)

Hi elvis. We have traveled many of those same roads in Montana and Washington. If you're into out of the way roads, I would suggest you turn north at Couer d'Alene, go to Sand Point, and then turn west to Newport. At Newport turn north again onto Highway 20, it goes right across the top of Washington and is a beautiful ride over a couple of mountain passes. When we went that route 4 years ago, there was very little traffic and the country is beautiful.

Another nice highway to travel is 3 in British Columbia, Mostly in the mountains and again beautiful country. At Sand Point you keep going north into Bonner's Ferry and through the border crossing at Porthill, just south of Creston B.C. Highway 3 will take you right to Vancouver, which is a beautiful city.

Hi Guys, I've been having trouble posting to the Northwest section, so let me know if this comes through. When my Uof I college (computer grad) son-in-law comes for Thanksgiving, I'll have him help me set up my profile (with pics and everthing). I'm in Coeur'd Alene... somebody come this way and pick me up on the way to Kalispell. Do all you hard-core bikers need soft beds, or is anybody camping out.

Your message came through just fine! You are not far from Kalispell...but I will be coming from Everett through Canada via Kamloops and Banff before dropping south to Kalispell, so I might just have to just see you there... !
