Engine Guard Chaps

Did anyone get the Airlite chaps with the pockets? I can always use more places to put stuff. But I don't want them if they end up cheesey.

Any opinions?

Michael

Engine Guard Chaps

I just ordered the Airlite chaps today for my B-day. They come out of Canada so will take a week to week and a half but Ill wait. Can't wait for colder weather to put them on and ride since I ride year around in Austin. never tooooo cold. :-)

The Airlites are one of the things I've bought online without seeing it first that came delivered as better quality than I expected! I thought they were very well made and go on in 30 seconds.

The engine guard chaps are on my list to buy before the mercury starts to drop.

Engine Guard Chaps

I have Airlites on my 06 Nomad and think they are the best.
I had some others (won't mention the name, but they cost more than the airlites) and the just never did look good. The Airlites fit and look good and do a great job of keeping the shins and knees warmer in the winter. I ride all year long and these make that
possible.
Ride safe,
Dano

Dano,

If you're familiar with both, how would you compare the Airlite to Classic Chaps?

By the way, been meaning to let you know I think your paint job certainly came out nice. The Corvette Yellow is great!

[quote:bfewkjwm]Michael it really doesn't take much to make your own enlarged lowers. Buy the lexan at Home Depot, cover it with masking or duct tape, draw out the shape you want, then cut them out with a variable speed jigsaw and a wood bit on a low speed. Polish the edges with sandpaper and drill the mounting holes and you're done. I made mine a little wider than stock but not enough to touch the case guards. They are a lot longer than stock with the extra length added to the bottom, not the top. Use the funds to buy what you can't make yourself.
Don't get caught up worrying about engineering issues on the lowers. Here is a pic of the ones I made. Easy pattern.

So, how much longer did you make them? And does the stock shape have any engineering behind them? Just curious, as I would love to make my own lowers...

Engine Guard Chaps

I got the airlite chaps with the pockets and they look great. I may have to move my driving lights from the bottom of the engine guard, but other than that it is really easy to take off and put on. Up here in Fairbanks Alaska, esp this time of year it goes on a lot in the morning and off by afternoon.

On my 1600 Classic, the first winter I had a set of regular chaps.
Didn't like them, they gapped open near the radiator no matter how tight I pulled the straps. I got a set of AirLytes the second winter and kept them for my 06 Nomad thru the 3rd winter. They look brand new even though they are 2 years old and fit perfectly. I recommend them.
Ride safe,
Dano
