Fun Day of Follow the Leader

Ken and I went for a ride today. This was one of those rides we do once in a while where one person picks out where we are going and how to get there..the other person doesn't know where we are going and just follows......Once we reach that destination we usually find a place to eat, then the other person picks out the route back home. It's a lot of fun...this way we both get to pick places we would like to ride and the other has fun trying to figure out where we're headed.

Today was my turn to pick a destination and route. It was windy today. I had printed my route off mapquest and taped it to the tank with that blue 'carpenter's tape' that does not leave a sticky residue. Yeah I'm leading up to something. :-/

Well...we started out. The wind was gusting at 20 mph and I was going 65-70ish ....wosh there went my printed route! So I had to wing it......I missed on turn but figured a different way to go that actually took us on a few roads new to us.

Then ....I made a right turn onto a hwy and realized I was going south and needed to be going north......so I pulled into a bank parking lot to turn around. Of course Ken could not resist the urge to pull up beside me and say....'no we don't need to open another checking account at another bank'.....I just stuck my tongue out at him....LOL

Anyway that's our version of follow the leader. It's actually a lot of fun.

Not knowing where you are headed is one of my favorite things to do on the bike. If I get lost and am not sure where I am I just hit "home" on the GPS and it will head me back.

Sounds like your ride was fun for you guys.

It's hard to get lost in the United States. Let's see, Atlantic Ocean if you go too far East, Gulf of Mexico to the South. If all the people are speaking Spanish it's Mexico, Pacific Ocean on the West and if all the people are speaking with an English Accent you've made it to Canada! ;)

That is a fun way to ride. Cindy and I do that also. I usually tuck my route in the windshield bag and follow it that way. Haven't lost one yet. ;)

When I was in Vermont doing travel nursing that's what I would do on my days off. Just hop on the bike...no particular place in mind....found the most interesting little shops in little towns there. I didn't have a GPS....just a map....and I never had a problem with asking directions. Folks would get a kick out of a lady riding up on a motorcycle with Tennessee plates and asking directions in my best southern drawl. ;)

edited cause I can't type. ::)

Yeah....I've got a tank bag but I don't use it a lot...darn thing has such strong magnets I'm a afraid it will scratch my tank....it's left a dull finish after a trip which took a lot of buffing to get out - didn't think it was going to buff out there for a while. :-/

We love trying out diffirent places to eat too .....have discovered some pretty good places....and ahhh a few we know not to go back to.

The best places I've found have mostly all been because of just wandering-around off the beaten-trail.

I'll take others to some of these spots and they'll always ask how I found them. I guess others just ride on the "main" roads and never wander off. Oh well... their loss.
