O2 Sensor question

Ok , dumb question here . I'm just getting to know my new Vaq . When I bought it , it was backfiring and popping . The last owner had put rush mufflers on it and added a K&N filter which explains the popping .

I did some research and found that if I marble the hose behind the right side cover that would reduce the popping . That did not work . Still back firing and popping . I left the marble in place .

I looked for the O2 sensor and could not find it . It would have been plugged into the factory muffler . Does my bike even have one ? Could the wire to it be tucked away somewhere in the bike now ?

I plan on sending the ecu to Ivan for flashing but am wondering if this could cause a problem .

I don't believe they have an 02 sensor there until the 2015 models. Unless the California models had them before then ?

If you are planning on Ivanizing your ECU - Get er done. If your bike does have the O2 sensor - you will need to unhook it for the Re-flash.

Also, You can check the parts diagram to see if your bike has the O2 sensor at Ron Ayers http://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/c/k...torcycle/parts

Select the year and model for you bike and go to the Muffler page - look for a spark plug looking do-dad at the inlet of the right muffler.

Hope that helps.

My bike is a 2013 . I went to the oem parts page and saw the diagram . The part is shown in the pic but is not listed on the price side . I went out last night and had a good look and didn't see any wires hidden anywhere . I don't believe it had a sensor .

Thanks for all the help guys . Going to call Ivan today and get it done . From what everyone is saying about it I can't wait to get it done .

I'll be going down to the Kaw dealer today to have coffee with the boys and show off the new purchase . I think it's a good idea if I purchase a manual .

I know my 1500 Nomad from the inside out . The more I know about it , the more comfortable I am .

Like OldSchool said they were added on the '15 so you won't have one. After I had my '15 reflashed I just unplugged the 02 sensor from the stock muffler and left the "02 plug" in the Cobra Tri Flo muffler when I installed them. I never had a problem with backfiring before or after.

Please be kind !!!

Is this what I'm suppose to send Ivan to have flashed . That's it , that's all , nothing more ?? I'm sending it out tomorrow morning . God forbid I send the wrong item !!

So the ECU will be sent to Ivan this morning . Can't wait to get it back so I can get a feel for what you guys are talking about .

I'm guessing I have to remove the marble I put in the hose to reduce popping before I reinstall the ecu ?
