I'm still really new to the Nomad, and trying to figure out all of her noises, but she did quiet down with the extenders installed.

Ok
I know this was answered to some degree in another post but could someone give me a "general" idea as to the "NORM" mileage when I should consider the extenders?
I am documenting all of these goodies so when it comes time I know what to do... :)

My cam chain install this winter, quieted the noise and I got a lot better throttle response from the engine...... 46,000 miles

Seems this would most likely be a non-warranty item I would think. Also seems like a broad range of miles people do this job. Ive heard 25,000-50,000. I wonder why? i think seem get nervous and do them early I suppose.

I did mine recently as the engine noise had seemed to be getting more "rattly". I had 44,000+ miles on it and after doing it, it does seem to be lots quieter in the rattling department. I had 1 click left on the rear tensioner and 3 clicks left on the front one.

I was at 37,000 miles, and was out of travel on both the front and rear.

How hard was the front tensioner to get to/install?

It's difficult if the crossover tube is in place. I chose not to deal with it, and removed mine. It was no longer functional due to my custom air intake setup.

Do not use a ratcheting box end wrench to remove the tensioner cap on the front cylinder. I've been told ::) you can back it out so far that the wrench is pinned between the cap and the rear cylinder fins and it's very difficult to remove.

It takes patience, but many others have managed to do it.

I've had my '05 Nomad just over 6 months with 8K on the clock. I'm curious if there is an "average" mileage at which to begin to consider installing extenders.

I tried to do that front one with the crossover tube loosened as much as I could get it from both sides and just couldn't get to that top bolt of the tensioner. Ended up cutting the crossover tube out and after that, it was a piece of cake. With the crossover tube gone, I did the right side air modification with K&N filter and "Coyote" kit per Gadget's website. By doing this, the carburetor had to be rejetted, but you guys with FI bikes and the adjustable TFI, fuel/air mixture adjustments would be easier (if you decide to remove the crossover and open up your air intake).
So you see, one thing led to another in my case.

I already have the Caddman mod and hadn't planned on removing the crossover tube. I'll have to figure something out.

I've measured that about 80% of the travel has been used at 26K mi. I've purchased the extenders and will wait until the travel is less than 10% or so. Maybe the stretching rate has slowed.
