As far as the wiring goes, you explained it correctly yourself. Im not sure about the paint for the lens.
I got to stare at your rear for a while last summer, ;) Its ok Rich, but Ive seen better. Perhaps it was all the rain in my eyes.

Rear Run/Signal ?
Just remember that rear running lights must be red to meet regulations.

Rear Run/Signal ?
I used an adult modelers red spray paint made in Japan called Tamiya TS-74 Clear Red. I was using the stock OEM amber lenses, masked the outside and sprayed a few coats on the inside, worked great, since you have clear lenses you could opt to use a red (not amber) 1157 bulb but these were special order here in Canada and pricey and I would have to buy new clear lenses, so I sprayed the stock lenses. This paint is used for spraying powered models so is high heat paint, I have had no issues with fading or peeling. Rear facing running lights in Canada can not be amber or yellow and I would agree with Yellow Jacket that your regs are pretty much the same. In the U.S. this paint is distributed by Tamiya America, Inc. located in Aliso Viejo, CA 92656

Rear Run/Signal ?
A chrome bezel and red lense that fits both front and rear signals is available for $30. I am not a real techie but if I did it right here's a pic.
I went the red model paint route and tried red led inside the amber lense before I did this but felt like both cut down the brightness (just my opinion guys, don't shot me!) so made this switch and happpy with result. You can use stock bulbs but I did switch to the hi intensity and long life ones. I think the covers are Kuryakyn but I got them at my locale dealer.

Customdynamics.com has OEM quality red lenses for the 1500s. I got some and they look perfectly factory.

Rear Run/Signal ?
How did you come by the extra front turn signals? I installed the Kuryakyn TW but not sure I like it. Would be much better to have the dual filament bulbs.

Rear Run/Signal ?
You could also use a Priority Safety module or some other brand of module that can convert a single filament bulb to serving two purposes. I had one on my bike and loved it, it finally broke when I made a bad connection during my cruise control install. I'll be replacing it this season with another.
