Oil seep/leak from rear top of cylinder

I think the seal is blown out of the rocker cover(or valve cover ), are they easy to do or do i have to remove motor from frame to replace gasket?Any answers would be great.

Thats it just looks deceiving with the gas tank and frame, and curious if its a simple 1hr fix or more extensive fix.

....ice Where are you seeing the evidence of the leak? Right side, rear jug? This is a very typical spot to see oil leaking. It could be the cam seals leaking or the valve cover gasket. You may be able to slow it some or stop it completely by tightening the valve cover bolts that you can get at. If it's cam seals leaking, many have postponed replacing them by using some silicone on the ends of the seals. If you try tightening the valve cover bolts, be careful not to reef to hard on them and break or strip them. If the cam seals need to be replaced, at worst, you will have to pull the engine, or at least lower it about 3 inches to get it apart. Either way, its a pain in the a$$, but doable! Good luck!

If it's the gasket or cam plug the engine must be disconnected and dropped down in the frame, It does not need to be completely removed. You will need to remove seat & gas tank and coolant & hoses and some wires, and the swingarm pivot bolt plus the motor mounts. Plus you'll need to change the oil within a day. I'd say at least 8 hours work if you've never done one.

If i do the silicone trick do i apply it to the outside of the round plug just under the valve cover or do i have to lower motor to do so?

...ice You don't need to lower the engine for this procedure. You just gotta reach up there with a finger and smear the silicone onto the outside of the seal. Try to get the outside edges completely as obviously, this is where the leak is. Many have used this fix to buy some time and in fact, can last for a long time. Best to use some high temp silicone. Let it set up and go ride! :)

If you do the silicone trick, clean that area and the plug over and over with solvent and clean paper towels or rags. If it's really clean the silicone sticks great. If there's a speck of oil it won't.

I was going to do that myself as I had the cam plug seepage, but since I started using the Lucas oil stabilizer it seems to have quit leaking.
