Plasti-Dip paint

Have any of you fine gentlemen (used loosely of course) used Plasti-Dip paint on anything before? I have just recently found out about this stuff and especially it's use on vehicles. There are people painting their entire car with this stuff. It looks like a great product. And the bonus of it, the paint will peel off when you get tired of it, kind of like a vinyl wrap.

I was looking into it to use on the wheels of my vehicle, but when I saw all the people painting their cars with it, it made me think about painting my Nomad with this stuff. It has great reviews, and there are a ton of YouTube videos from the people at DipYourCar.com on how to use it and apply it. I'm thinking I may be on to something for a paint job and a protective coating.

So for $20 was a good learning experience. Looks good- durability? not so much.I checked, plasti clear coat fogs up the black and doesn't add any more durability than more layers of black. If used as sort of a primer you wont be able to peel it off. Gonna leave it on 'til I tire of touching it up (rocks from road and what not) But prob gonna take it and get it painted professionally. I think it would work well for areas not handled very much but I think on the tank and rear fender (taking off saddlebags, seats, racks etc) not gonna do well.

I wouldn't do it, but if you want to cover your bike with that stuff go for it. On some of the 4x4 forums I belong to, some folks are using Rhino bed liner on the exterior of the vehicle.

I used something like it to paint the chrome piece around the speakers and on the tank of my Voyager. It's lasted pretty well as I painted it about three months ago. You just have to watch out for gas because it will peel it off rather quickly.

Nephew told me about this stuff. Car guys coating their expensive rims with this in the fall to protect throughout the winter. Peel off in spring.

Some are using it for areas on their bikes and other vehicles in areas for added protection against rocks and etc.

Whenever it starts to look bad, supposedly they just peel it off and reapply. Not very expensive.

I have some in my garage I was planning on dipping a few tool handles into it.

Dewey, thanks for that post. I am curious as to how well it holds up over time. It appears to be a short term application for vehicles, but then there are accounts where people have had this stuff on for long periods of time with no issues. I wonder how many coats that guy applied to his bike? I know in some of the videos I've seen, it takes about 5-7 coats to get a really good layer and it makes it easier to remove when that time comes.

I may try some on the wheels of my car first, as a trial run, and see how it holds up. If I like that outcome, I may consider it for the bike.

I have the spare tire rim on my CJ5 done in that stuff. Looks great, and has for over a year. Not sure I would cover my paint in it, but for certain parts and accessories, I think it's perfect.

I am familiar with the product and have used it a bit, and for that reason I would NOT use it to coat an entire bike. But for bits and pieces that you want the option of removing it from it is great.

Based on another inmate's thread about painting their windshield, I painted the back of mine with it and it looks GREAT!

I have used it, I did all my chrome parts on my Vaquero because some of my buddies have been doing it to their 4X4s to keep from getting their paint and chrome banged up.

The stuff works great and looks great. You can wash it and stuff and when your done with it just peel it off like rubber. I didn't even have to mask off my headlight and tailight as it peeled off and broke perfectly at the chrome parts.

I think i have some pics ill try to post them before I peeled it all off. Yeah, my curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to see if it really worked. The stuff just peeled right off! Better yet, any off spray can be takin care of by simply rubbing it off with your fingers. I plan on doing it again soon when I get the time, gonna put about 5 coats on and leave it. It's great cause you dont even have to take crap off just mask off stuff for no big over spray and rub the small stuff off.

Ive seen guys coat their high dollar rims and even whole trucks. Once they are done mudding for the weekend they just peel it all off and their rims and paint looks as good as new. Its good stuff, you can even get creative and make carbon fiber looks etc.

It protects your paint and chrome for resale value and it looks good while its on. Ive seen it first hand, its a winner.

BTW, no sanding required, just clean up what you want coated and spray.

When I went to powder coat my chrome pieces I was told the plastic pieces were a no go. I did the plasti dip on the plastic chrome trims and it has held up well.
