Scootworks - UPDATE

Don't know if this is where this belongs but I thought more members would see it here.

Two months ago I ordered a belt drive kit for my Drifter from Scootworks for $569. They took the money from my credit card immediately :( I have been getting excuse after excuse for 2 months as to why it is not at my house yet.
Today I got a PM from a member of the Drifter Forum I am on. It is as follows.

Hey TC, I hope you get your belt drive conversion kit soon, but don't hold your breath. I ordered saddlebag mounts from Scootworks and after 52 days, many phone calls and just as many excuses I canceled my order. I did a little research and found out they aren't members of the BBB and didn't renew their chamber of commerce membership. On June 1st they hung a sign on their retail store that said closed for remodeling and have never reopened. Dave Hockaday is full of BS and I wouldn't trust Scootworks. I ran into someone else a few week ago that had a similar experience with them...

Dave Hockaday is the owner of Scootworks.
So if any one is thinking of ordering from them, I wouldn't.
I emailed him one more time and if I don't like the answer I will have to pursue getting my money back.

Scootworks - UPDATE

Now that you mention this, I read on the Vulcan Forum a little while back that Scootworks was having "inventory problems". Sounds like they might be down for the count. It's too bad, they sold good merchandise at a decent price and had great service when I've bought from them in the past.

That doesn't sound too good Tim, hopefully you will get your money returned or the kit, but sometimes it hard to do.
Call your credit card company and see if they can give you a credit.

Thanks for the Heads Up Tim. I was contemplating ordering one of their trunks. You should be able to get a credit from your credit card bank and then they will pursue Scootworks for the money.

I had to cancel my Phat Risers II order for the same reason.
They did refund my card.

Scootworks - UPDATE

This saddens me because like others have said, Scootworks sells good products and have (had) a very good reputation. However, even if they are suffering from the bad economy, they should maintain contact with you and give you regular updates on the status of your order. I would not be so upset if they contacted me regularly to tell me that the item is still on back order but to hear nothing from them for two months must be very frustrating.

Scootworks - UPDATE

I take this situation with Scootworks kind of personal. I was the one that got KawaNOW members a 10% discount.
Have ordered a lot from them over the years with great results.
I assume the economy has really hurt their business, but may be other reasons as well.

Only thing I can add is buyer beware!
Unless their situation changes for the better, I've probably ordered my last item from Scootworks.

TC, I will call Dave on your behalf if you want. Had a pretty good rapport with him over the years. Let me know if I can help.....

Scootworks - UPDATE

Sad to hear about Scootworks. I know how very difficult it is to own a business and loose it. It's terrible. :-[ I too suggest you contact your CC company for refund. The reason I use online credit card in my business is to protect my clients from any calamity like a meteor falling on me or being struck by lightning. I wish you the best and hope the best for Dave & Scootworks.

Scootworks - UPDATE

They aren't having their 'Scootworks Bikeweek' this year.

I wouldn't count on them being around a whole lot longer.

It's really hard for the little guy to survive these days.

Scootworks - UPDATE

I had a similar experience about a year and a half ago when I ordered some highway bars for my 900. They had the cheapest price, but charged right away and didn't ship for two months, so on some level that seems to be there policy. On the other hand, the things that they make themselves, I got right away. That included risers for the 900 and nomad and also a front pulley for the 900. I hope they can recover. Either way you should be able to get your money back.
