Cobra lightbar spotlights
Hey all, I know this has been asked before but I can't find the post and I'm too damn lazy to go looking all over the place.
I got home today and noticed that both of my spotlights are out. They were working fine all weekend, I believe, but now they're out. Does anyone know if theirs is on a separate fuse or if it could be something else completely. The headlight works fine, just the spots are out. Thanks

If you still have a manual switch they bite.. With a test light see if there is power to the switch, and then see if there is power coming out.
If there is no switch what's in the hole? If there is a relay, see if the relay has power at 2 places T 30 and one of the T 86 or 87.

It depends on how it was wired whether or not it has its own fuse. If they are connected to the accessory connector in the headlight bucket, there is a fuse for that with the rest of the fuses under the right side cover. Did you check the switch?

Hey Scott, is it time for that "Driving Lights" sticky yet?
Open your right side cover and discover the fuse panel. Look for the Aux fuse which I believe is 10 amp. If it is blown you can try to replace it but if you do, check the light bulbs to see if they are dead. There is usually a reason that the fuse went, if it did. The next step may be removing the headlight to see how the spotlights are wired. Is it wired to the AUX power connector inside the headlight as is typical when following the totally inadequate instructions from Cobra or the equally inadequate methods often used by shops. After that, discussions about headlight wattage and connections direct from your battery for power to your lights using a relay will likely ensue.

Its rare you had both bulbs go out at once. I have the same set-up and rarely burn out one bulb at a time. Sounds like something deeper. A fuse, a loose wire, etc. Good Luck.

The cobra switch is cheap junk. Might have power to it, but not getting past it, when it's ON... That one dies on me, then another one went wacky from walley world the blue dot, and i put on another with a green dot. That one still works. The blue dot one I might fix some day if i haven't thrown it out.
This cheap crap from CHINA sucks the Bisquit.

My Fire & Steel lightbar wasn't working one day either. Don't know how you connected your lightbar to your power, but in my case it was just a connector that had worked loose. Put a new connector on, making sure good and tight, and been good ever since. Guess I really should solder it, but haven't.

Well, here we go again. I checked the fuses and checked the connection on the switch and suddenly the lights were working. Now today I noticed that they weren't working, then came back on. So the problem is intermittent. I looked at the switch and couldn't see anything though. I noticed when I revved the engine that they went out then came back on later. I'm wondering if there is a loose wire somewhere that isn't quite touching.

It sure sounds like a bad connection, youll have to check the wires going to the switch and to the lightbar itself and check the ground as well.

if the cobra light bar is installed per the manfacturers instructions, it is attached to the running light circuit, not the headlight circuit or the auxilary circuit. The kit comes with those, piggy back on a existing wire, squeze on wire connectors and they are notorius for comming loose. You ahve the same problem that lots of cobra owners have. Pull the headlight and look inside the housing. Bet one of the connectors sprung open or the powe wire to you spots has pulled loose from the connector.

I did not use the connectors or the instructions from Cobra which are pretty much the same for the F&S lightbar. I think the F&S one is made by Cobra anyway.
You need to check all the connectors and the wire connections to the lights themselves. I by-passed their cheesy switch to one on my handlebar and re-soldered some of the connections inside the spotlight cans. The only T-tap I used was to the running light wire to switch the relay. I still can't believe they (Cobra) are wiring these up without a relay. The Susuki OEM lightbar (made by Cobra I think) had connections in the harnesss that were just hand twisted and then held together with shrink tubing. Many of the folks on the VR forum were chasing constant bulb failures when a lot was due to poor quality assembly and parts from the manufacturer.
